Also, are there any good websites that goes into detail about the history
of the Arabic language, and the differences between the Arabic dialects as well as their
history? |

Get Modern Arabic by Clive Holes. Best description of Arabic I've read.

Would any of the Arabic speakers recommend Arabic: An Essential Grammar by Faruk Abu-Chacra? I got some money together and I want to start buying some supplies.
The ones I'm defiantly going to get are:
Read and Speak Arabic for Beginners by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar
Mastering Arabic by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar
Let's Talk Arabic by Dr. Adam
Modern Arabic by Clive Holes
I saw that someone on here uploaded the DLI MSA Arabic for download.
Also, I think I'm going to pursue MSA with Levantine being the dialect I study down the road when I get a base in the script as well as the MSA language.

I think for the money, Modern Literary Arabic can't be beat ($5-$8 used on Amazon) ... except maybe by All the Arabic You Never
Learned the First Time (free!) Heck, get both!
Best of luck with your Arabic studies. It is an easy language to get hooked on!

If you're going to buy Mastering Arabic, then I would recommend you buy the accompanying books, Mastering Arabic 1 Activity book and Mastering Arabic grammar. They complement Mastering Arabic really well. And when you've finished Mastering Arabic, there is Mastering Arabic 2!
