Alright, I've just uploaded an update to address a few things. The game now pauses for a second and gives a warning beep when the game ends. Is that enough to prevent accidental name entries? Let me know if you think it should be longer or there's a better solution. Note that you may need to clear your cache to get the new version.
Luai: Thanks for the detailed info; I think that just means your version of Java is too out of date to run it. Just in case, I updated my JDE as well and assigned version numbers to some classes that didn't have them, but if you get the same message and you want to try the game, try updating Java.
Bao: That's an interesting point. While the words you mentioned are definitely uncommon, the kanji that make them up aren't particularly difficult - so it could be an opportunity to learn a few new words with the kanji you already know (though granted the ones you listed probably aren't especially useful), or at least the rarity of the words shouldn't make the game harder to play. I could certainly try integrating word frequency into the difficulty levels at some point, but I'm not sure to what extent word commonality corresponds to the difficulty of the kanji used to write that word.

What font or font style/family is your game displayed in?

You're welcome. I tried to update but my computer insists that I already have the latest version. :( This may just be
a "my computer is old and sucky" problem.

Bao: I didn't specify anything other than "Sans Serif", though I also tried Serif and it didn't seem significantly more or less readable. I've uploaded a new version in which if you type either of the following commands, you will change the font:
debug_font_mincho
debug_font_serif
Try these commands and let me know if either significantly improves the readability. If anybody else wants to try them out and let me know how they read as well, that would be great. Note that if the commands are recognized, you will be informed that the font was changed - if not, you're still running the old version from cache.

I finally had the time to figure out what font the game uses for me; it's Ming-LiU which is specified as my default for monospaced text in - traditional Chinese (Taiwanese charset). Using Firefox 6.0.
My main problem is that I use contextual cues to decide whether to read Chinese characters as Japanese or Mandarin (or beware, even Canto or Korean); and when there are no okurigana present, the word I see is not part of a sentence and I don't even know it, I look at the font next.
The game doesn't work for me any more; I tried the debug which didn't change anything, when I then tried playing I could start the game, but when I try to send my word the game doesn't react any more. (Cleared my browser cache, retried - same issue.)

I see the same results as Bao. The game starts, but doesn't respond to the Enter key anymore.

Oops! Yeah, my hasty insertion of the new debug features broke it. Problem should be fixed.
Also, is anybody playing the game with the Google IME? I know one user having difficulty, and he uses that IME, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem.
