I don't know if this would work for everyone, but the number one method for me when it comes to learning the genders of German nouns is listening to music. Since I tend to unconsciously memorize the lyrics of songs I like, that means that I end up learning the gender of words right along with the rest of the lyrics. Already this has saved me innumerable times on tests and when speaking. If I come to a word that I don't know, but that I've heard in a song, I just start singing that part of the song (in my head, not out loud!) until I get to the noun in question, and there's the gender. This works for many other aspects of language-learning too, but only if you're willing to listen to *tons* of German music! If you want recommendations, "Die Prinzen" and "The Wise Guys" are both rather silly but very fun groups who sing quite clearly.

Just don't sweat it so much. I'd say, if you have the choice between learning another new word, or really trying to get the gender down on one you already know, go for the new word. Once you have enough words under your belt, you can read books, and in those you'll see "DER Computer", "DAS Forum" and "DIE Beitraege" often enough to have it stick eventually...
