I'm looking for a bit of advice. I just finished German Pimsleur III. I've actually done the whole Pimsleur a few times over the last few years, but I want to actually continue with my quest to learn German.
I'm trying to decide whether to do the Living Language Ultimate German (Basic-Intermediate and Advanced) or FSI German 1 & 2.
I've taken a look at the first couple lessons of each so I think I understand how they work. FSI seems to be more interactive and guided whereas Ultimate German requires that I figure out the best way to do it. Does my take on these course seem correct?
I've done some reading of posts by others and I realize that the general consensus is that both of these are rather dry or boring. I'm not too concerned about that.
Some other questions:
- For those of you that did Pimsleur and followed on with one of these courses, which did you choose?
- Does anyone know which one would take me to a higher level of German?
- FSI has a total of 24 units and Ultimate a total of 80 lessons. I think I can do one FSI unit per week. What would be a good pace for the Ultimate course?
- I just love Pimsleur. Would FSI be a better match for me with all the repetition and drills?
- Would doing both at the same time be recommended? For example, spend exactly half my study time each day doing each course. Or is it better to do one and then do the other after?
I signed up for the 6-week challenge starting on Aug 1st so my goal is to use that to help me get a good start on one of these courses.
