French is still harder than English for the Italian or Spanish speakers. Speaking romance languages just makes you understand where and how subjunctive is used or the difference between Passé compose and passé simple. It just gives you the concept but doesn’t help you to memorize better all those irregular conjugations. On the other hand French conjugation may be quiet tricky. Many different tenses or moods are similar.

I don't even know if French is easier for a Romance speaker, since its grammar is so simple. Pronunciation, however, may be tricky. I don't think Chinese is easier than English, no matter how easy its grammar is. I don't know about Turks, but they're neither Germanic nor Romance- speaking, thus I actually think it should be considered what they think.. |

I quoted Deniz's text so that this wouldn't happen, but alas it has happened. I think you've mistaken what I said. I would invite you to read my posts again.
I'm not denying the opinion of any language's speakers, including Turkish. I did not say that French is easier than English, nor indeed that Chinese is easier than English (it's not). The point I was making was in reply to Deniz's outlandish and rather heated claims, such as
"Sorry but do you really say that this is a grammar?)))) It can’t even be simpler. English doesn’t deserve to be called as grammar."
I feel this kind of talk goes against the informed and thoughtful nature of the forum.

In my opinion, English has an easy grammar, I'm sorry, but that's just my opinion.
The spelling and pronounciation can be difficult, but that goes for French as well.
The French's verb inflection is in my opinion, way more difficult.
I can't be sure whether French is really more difficult, but in my opinion, English isn't trickier to tackle than French.
(edit)
Both do have grammar though, so I think it depends mostly on your native language.
English is more widely spread so it reaches further, though French does have some colonies.
If you're from Europe, it depends. If you're from a Germanic country then English will be easier, if you''re from a country speaking a roman language, French might be easier.
I do know that English borrowed A LOT of words from French, and I seriously noticed from school...A LOT.
