I don't see how it's possible to even attempt learning German without dedicating
yourself to the grammar.
Without understanding their case system you're unable to properly decline their words
and without proper declinations then you could very well be putting forth the wrong
ideas as they relate to locations, movements and pluralities.
I don't mean to discourage you, but if you don't have an attraction to the language
then you might as well try something else because it will be very frustrating for a
while until you learn to properly implement these features.
And to save you some time: quit using LiveMocha immediately. It's good for nothing
except meeting people.
If you're looking for a launching point then get the German version of the Teach
Yourself and Colloquial series.

I know what I'm doing, don't worry. I'm just trying to scrape a pass in German. I don't need to know a lot of grammar to get a D or a C.
I hate the language, but I have to study it. It was either German or Italian, and I can't stand Italian either.
I used to love Italian, but I couldn't find any good material to study the language, so I became really frustrated.
I do own some German comic books, and I also ordered a plethora of German books at some point.
Anyway, I'm done with German for the day. I learned basic words such as eating and drinking. I still make a lot of mistakes each time I do the writing exercises, but it'll get better eventually.

No good materials?! There are plenty of them! If you want, I can send you some titles (but I can't believe you don't know them, they are so obvious)

I don't know them, otherwise I'd probably have studied Italian last year in college.

I studied German for another ten minutes because I don't think I'll have time to use Livemocha tomorrow.
I studied vocabulary related to clothes and basic conjugations.

It's ironic to name your blog "Become Fluent in a Foreign Language" while 10 minutes seem
long to you when doing German. I have never seen such a poor learning technique in all of
my time spent here. I guess the blog's name was supposed to be ironic?

Thanks for the free publicity, and for demonstrating how bitter you are. :)
It proves that I'm doing something right!
Anyway, I studied German for a bit today, but not on Livemocha.
Instead, I read an ebook on German. I learned some basic phrases. I didn't time myself this time, but I think that the whole memorization process took me about 10 minutes.
Phrases I've learned:
Guten Abend
Gute Nacht
Ja/ Nein
Es tut mir leid
Woher kommst du?
Ich bin... Jahre alt
Entschuldigung
I familiarized myself with some more sentences.

You're welcome. I read your other log and now I can see you're on the right track with
English. If only more could be as dedicated as you and I are.
