Other than typos, it may be different courses for people who have the advantage of already knowing characters (native Japanese and Cantonese) or people with heritage background who already speak a decent amount of the language but do not know characters. It is extremely difficult when you have absolutely no background to be in a class with these other types of learners....been there, done that.

It could also be just be like that because the university needs different course codes for the same course. I had that in computer
science, it was the same course and same lectures but had different code/name depending on whether you were doing a BEng or a BSc.
Sometimes it's also a split between a course over 1 year, and the same course over 2 years.
