What is transliterate?
Transliterate is the action of passing a text from one alphabet to another, keeping the phonetic issues.
Every transliteration must be capable to get back to original form, letter by letter, without any errors.
I have seen many times people transliterating Russian in a wrong form, and there is a default way to
transliterate, I will teach it:
А    A
Б    B
В    V
Г    G
Д    D
Е    YE
Ё    Ë
Ж    ZH
З    Z
И    I
Й    Ĭ or J
К    K
Л    L
М    M
Н    N
О    O
П    P
Р    R
С    S
Т    T
У    U
Ф    F
Х    H
Ц    TS
Ч    CH
Ш    SH
Щ    SHCH
Ъ    "
Ы    Y
Ь    '
Э    E
Ю    YU
Я    YA

Letters not present in Latin Alphabet are represented by two letters, just like Ж becomes ZH.
Note that TS automatically turns into Ц, thus, if you want to write ТС, you have to
separate the two letters with a middle point (·) or with a dash (-). So, the transliteration of Ростов
находится на дону
becomes "Rostov nahodit·sya na donu", 'cause the text "Rostov nahoditsya
na donu" becomes Ростов находиця на дону as well as "Oni tantsyevali na l'du" becomes Они
танцевали на льду
. So, pay attention to the digraphs.

Well no, there are many ways.

Romanization of Russian (wiki)

Of course it's always better to use the Cyrillic alphabet whenever possible.

Translit.ru allows you to not only instantly convert Latin letters into Cyrillic, but also to check spelling (the орф button).
