	[it] Allora, ci ho provato un po' leggere Machiavelli e penso di aver sbagliato scelta. Ci sono due modi a leggere un libro quando linguisticamente non si è tanto competenti. Potrei leggerlo così semplicemente per veder com'è ed aggiungere un altro sulla lista dei libri terminati, oppure potrei aspettare un po' per migliorare nel frattempo, ed allora leggerlo prestando molta attenzione. Per ora ci sono molte parole sconosciute, quindi riesco solo a leggere con molta fatica. Visto che è un libro abbastanza importante, preferirei essere in grado a leggerlo più fluentemente. Probabilmente farei bene a trovarmi qualche libro Italiano non molto difficile per esercitarmi di più. 1 person has voted this message useful

	[it] Abbiamo un piccolo problema. Ho finito tutti i libri facili, quindi non ho niente di nuovo da leggere. Sembra che Machiavelli e anche Eco sono più impegnativi di quanto per ora gli possa dare. Quando leggo in treno talvolta è un po' difficile concentrarmi al massimo su di ciò che sto leggendo, perciò sospetto che non sia il caso di leggere Eco. Comunque, ci sono parecchi audiolibri che si possa ascoltare, e forse è ora di approfittarne. Guarda un po' l'elenco (bisogna iscriversi sul sito per caricare la pagina). 	[it] Sto leggendo il mio primo audiolibro. Lo trovo un po' difficile, non c'è modo di vedere le parole che non si conoscono. Tuttavia mi era sembrato più difficile al inizio che ora. Il romanzo è uno dei miei preferiti racconti da bambino, "I tre moschettieri". E' un racconto molto bello, ma un po' faticoso da leggere per via delle parole scelte con gran cura. [nl] In other news I just finished up Michel Thomas. These courses are very well made, but the Dutch course breaks down a bit towards the end, where the verb tenses of English fail to find a sensible correspondence with the Dutch tenses and it's messy. 	So I've been back from vacation for a few days and periodically coming back to stare at my log without having anything concrete to write. I've come to something of a stall in my language learning and I know that I need to regroup, it just doesn't seem to be coming. What to do, how to plan. Stuff that easily came to mind in the past. So I might as well start with a recap, cause that's easy. I'm officially a few hours past the 1000h count. 1000 hours of Italian, since August. 9.5 months. Add to that is a month spent in Italy (June), where of course I did not painstakingly try to record my exposure to Italian. But that was a whole lot of passive learning and quite a few conversations. I didn't do very well in my conversations, because that's my least developed skill (and since I practiced so little I'm not surprised I wasn't terribly good). At first I had to overcome what felt like a strong inhibition to make mistakes. Even when I knew I had a flawless sentence I didn't have the confidence to speak it loud and clear. Fortunately, practice helps greatly, and maybe even more so practice where there is a problem at hand (eg. urgently needing directions), so you think less about the language itself. Basically, a major reason why I didn't practice speaking much is because it's not an individual activity like the others. Harder to plan, harder to put on a regular schedule. Nevertheless, I really need to address this now. I plan to keep reading, but speaking is now top priority. That's issue number one. Issue number two is how my unstable life/work situation extinguished my Dutch efforts, which never went past 40h. I really need to restart my Dutch for real, unfortunately I'm gasping a bit for enthusiasm at the moment. I can't quite get past the idea that it's a language I ought to learn, not one I'd ever pick myself if I didn't happen to live here. And if you can't convince yourself you really want it then even the easiest language is really hard. So, yeah. But sometimes just typing up the status quo helps me move onto new thoughts, clear my head. 1 person has voted this message useful
