Some of you may remember I had a language log called "Speaking Like a Russian." I am not learning Russian at the moment because I will be traveling to France next summer. I will probably start learning Russian again once I feel comfortable with my French. I wanted to start this log because I remember my Russian log was great motivation for me. I am a complete beginner in French, and I hope I will be conversational by July 2012. Who thinks I can do it? Right now I am spending most of my time listening. I am listening to Lingq, French in Action, Schola (which is way above my level), and some music in French. I'm not completely avoiding the other skills though. I am reading Le Petit Prince and basic level material on lingq, and I write every now and then on Lang-8. I will probably practice some of my writing on here also, and hopefully some people will be willing to correct it for me (please?). Thank you to anyone and everyone who will read this, and I hope you will enjoy it and maybe get something out of my log!

I also just started learning French, so I look forward to reading your log! My practical goal is fluency in 3 years, though I'll certainly try to achieve that earlier. I'm sure if you put your mind (and your time) to it you can reach your goal.

Bonne chance!

I'm in the Team TAC 2011, so I just added French into that log. It's here: Lianne’s TAC 2011 Fun Times - Team Ŭ; the French updates start near the end of page 2.

Lang-8 ist great. I always get a quick response for my other languages -- two days at the latest. I'm not writing very much in French yet. My vocabulary is too limited... but soon I hope! Good luck!

To save you some heartache, let me be brutally honest: no one can learn French, it is an impossible monster. I have tried to learn French for several months, and can confirm it is flat-out just not possible. I am not sure how the French learn French - likely involves some pact with the Devil.

If you are insisting in persisting with this madness (as incidentally I am), then you may be interested in a free audio recording of Le petit prince, to go along with your reading of the text which you mention in your first post - it is somewhere hiding in the interweb. I can search for the link I was provided by someone else on this forum if you are interested.

Bonne chance (that is devil speak for "abandon all hope, you are one of us now").
