Yesterday I did a thrird pass, reading in English. This time the familiarity of the text I had built up really helped me
concentrate on the audio. I think that'll really help when I do it in Spanish later. To be honest, doing a third pass in French wasn't of much use, since my knowledge of the language is already pretty good, but the whole experience sure helped me revive my French skills and I think it familiarized me with the techniques I'll need to use in Spanish. I can't wait to see the updates once you are back on this cause I'm messing with L-R
specifically for Spanish as well at the moment I was really surprised to read the 3 pages and see the discussion of reading ahead. In fact, I think I am reading behind, and I am not convinced that it is bad. I have 3 seconds of Spanish in auditory memory when I see the English words and then my brain tries to "match" each word to an English word. I didn't even suspect this could be wrong until I read your log, as I have a feeling that it is part of how I learned Chinese (but way less intense) by watching SOO many Chinese movies with English subtitles and always trying very intently to use the "knowledge" of what is being said to decipher individual Chinese words in the audio. Also, I came up with a new idea today that I have been experimenting with just in the past few hours of study: Listening to the audio for a 2nd pass through a book I have already L-R'ed through and keeping my eyes away from the page as much as possible. Thus I FORCE myself to try to decipher everything from the Spanish audio, but, if I fail I still glance so that I can figure it out and (hopefully) be able to get the meaning purely from audio next time I hear the same word / similar phrase. 1 person has voted this message useful |
