I started learning Russian a few days ago and according to what I have read, one of the difficulties of the language is the usage of the various verbs of motions.
Now, I tried to read some descriptions and it appears to me, it would be fairly similar to what happen in the German language but of course without separation (for example: fahren, hinfahren, fortfahren, ausfahren, zurürckfarhen...).
Am I totally wrong in my interpretation? I would really appreciate if someone who knows both languages could give his / her opinion on the subject :)

The system with the prefixes is fairly similar, but the German verbs know neither the difference between progressive imperfective, and iterative imperfective nor between imperfective and perfective verbs of motion.
progressive imperfective: ехать
iterative imperfective: ездить
Both are "fahren" in German
If there is a prefix, you have again pairs of perfective / imperfective:
wegfahren: уехать, уезжать (!!)
So it is certainly more difficult than the German verb of motion, but nothing to rack one's brains, if one has learned Russian for only a few days. Start practicing some time the pairs like ехать-ездить, the rest, when you are advanced with the aspectual pairs of normal verbs.
I have seen whole books dedicated to this theme.

Thank you very much Cabaire. Your post reassured me, I will make sure to learn the verbs in pair and after a while I hope it will be like in German and I will "feel" the meaning of the particle.
