Frankfurt German is a German dialect, belonging to the "Hessische" group of dialects, that differs from standard Hochdeutsch in various aspects of the pronunciation. So, final "n" is often dropped, hard "p, t, k" will change to soft "b, d, g", and "ch" and "g" will change to a soft "sch" like in French "journal".
For example "Guten Morgen" will become "Guude Morsche".
A famous example of Frankfurt dialect are the following lines from Goethe's drama "Faust": "Ach neige, du schmerzensreiche..." which only rhyme when spoken in Frankfurt German sounding like this: "Ach neische, du schmerzensreische..."
I hope these few explanations were helpful.

Well you asked for it... here's a clip performed by the local comedy group "Badesalz". The clip is taken from their film "Abbuzze": the plot is more of a parody, but the language is quite authentic:

Badesalz - Im Fitneßstudio

A Youtube search for "Mundstuhl" (a similar comedy group) should also yield some interesting results.

Don't worry about dialects or accents in Frankfurt. Germans will speak standard German, and it is even more likely they will speak English with you. The only accents you will encounter are the foreign accents of immigrants.

Although accents vary, my personal experience of Germany is that you are less likely to hear dialect than you would in Austria. Admittedly my main recent experience of Germany is of highly urban areas of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

oh, I'm soo glad I stumbled in on this thread -- I'm a dialect junkie! I live in the Frankfurt area so keep throwing the links, I stand here with open arms!

Badesalz: do muss isch grade mol lache :D

I've read that Goethe's last words were, "Mehr Licht" (More light), but what he could've been saying was Hessisch, "Mer lischd hier so schleschd!" (I'm laying crooked or I'm uncomfortable) A -slightly- more gehochdeutscht version would be, "mir liegt es hier so schlecht"

There's quite a number of dialects in and around my area (Lahn-Dill-Kreis) but I guess the most standard umbrella term is Hessisch. I've heard people refer to it as Platt. I'm trying to train my ear to understand it, but they always tell me I haven't got a chance ;)

Schwierig, gell? Don't worry, after living in Darmstadt for almost 2 years, I still get lost. Here are some Hessisch links to get you started! :)
