Pretty much the title. I live in Woodville Texas. Very close to Livingston, Where I do belive is the largest group of the native american tribe of Alabama-Coushatta.
I have several natives who go to my school. None however are fluent, though they say there parents are.
I'm looking to gain some knowledge of this language, just for personal wisdom, and a good cultural expierence since they are so close. (No offense, I honestly love native culture I re-read this and realized that sounded very... racist. To clearify, since there is oppurtunities and a wealth of the culture assembled so near me.)
I do know some basic facts/outlines of fact. That Alabama and Coushatta are two diffrent tribes. That they are diffrent languages but are very similiar. And that especcially in texas, they get mixed together like spanglish in southern texas.
However I dont know any recent news on the #'s of speakers wether it has gone up or down. Or weather there are good resources available. I plan on looking and talking to the natives at my school but here are some question in the meantime....
Any resources for learning the language?
Any place to meet natives?
Anyone on here study this language/speak this language?
Will this language survive?
Has it gotten anybetter off with new promoting?
Any other good information will be welcome.
Airrick
