Interesting article.
I figured the only way to really kindle the Esperanto language, is to have high schools teach it as an optional second language. Being an easy language, it will attract many teenagers, and create grounds for people to use it. It's enough for one country to start such a program to encourage other places to do as well. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Sorry, when asked why they're not taking languages, most teenagers would say they're not interested because they'll never use them. I can't think of many languages more likely to provoke this reaction than Esperanto. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I don't know if you're suggesting that Esperanto isn't a useful language, or suggesting that it would merely be perceived that way; but I and many people I know use Esperanto every day. It's a fantastically useful language and the study of Esperanto has undeniably enriched the lives of a great number of people. Furthermore, learning Esperanto can give someone many advantages that learning no other language can match. There are many reasons why someone would be interested in learning it. I don' think all kids are the same. These days a lot of kids, young people are helping others out, helping good causes, at the lokal animalshelter, beiing a member of greenpeace, amnesty etc.
Kids are also interested in communicating with people from other countries. I don't think it is good to label kids as one group of lazy uninterested young people. But thanks for the article. Brought back memories. I took an Esperanto Course back in the day... when i was... young! (And there where other teenagers too! Really! :) 1 person has voted this message useful |
