Ok...I'm as bit confused here. Not confused exactly, but I really don't see how this "revelation" affects the original question here...whether or not Egypt should be demanding the Rosetta Stone be given "back" to them.
I have read through this whole thread, (it has been a while, so I don't remember everything,) but very few people have even come close to arguing it shouldn't be given to them specifically because of Islam.
If I recall correctly, the discussion has focused more on whether the present day country which exists there now has the right to assert "ownership" over something that just happens to have come from (in ancient times, and discovered hundreds of years ago!) the chunk of land they now inhabit.
It's been fine where it is for over 200 years, (more or less, I'm aware it's previously moved/loaned briefly a couple of times) taken care of and available for people to see, so I see no reason to upheave this ancient artifact simply because someone's getting a little demanding. There are many ancient Egyptian artifacts in museums around the world that well predate the present day country of Egypt, should they all be given to the current inhabitants of Egypt as well simply because it was found on or came from "their turf"? I agree that items that were stolen/smuggled in the 20th century should be returned, but that's something totally different.
Also, I don't know if
this BBC article has already been mentioned, but I find it very fishy that this guy who raises such a big fuss that things created by ancient Egyptians be "returned" to the modern day people of Egypt as if they "own" them (ignoring the fact that it has been inhabited by many different peoples since ancient times) suddenly says he'll settle for a three month loan.
Hmm, and I wonder what happens when it's time to return it to its current legal/rightful owners? (the British museum.) I doubt, after his big insistence that these things belong to Egypt, he'd let the real thing go so easily.
BTW to the previous poster, I didn't intend to vote for your post, it happened accidentally when I hit quote. Sorry.

I don't think it's fair to have this discussion without hearing the other side....Do you??
So it can't be returned to Egypt so that the museums wouldn't be empty??? Don't they have other artifacts?? and by the way U.K was the one who offered to lend (R.S) for 3 monthes in the opining of a museum in cairo. But we refused it,We want it to be in Egypt for ever.
It's really not a nice thing to claim that Roseta Stone belongs to France or U.K or any other country. Just cuz Napilion Expedition stole it among other treasures Dosen't mean that it belonged to them now.Even if Egypt wasn't able to protect it's property at the time.
If you can take care of my thing better than me,That doesen't give you the right to NOT give it to me whenever I want to..
can't really remember who said that Egyptions're not Pharaohs dynasty, and Egypt had been colonized so many times that we're barely have any roots.
Well,it's true that it had over the history. But that dosen't mean that the people who live in it got eliminated every time. The Egyption's are the grandsons of Pharaohs. That's a Historical fact.
as to the sec.point: When hagar rashid (roseta stone) was in U.K it was in a bad room with lace of ventilation, only when it has been demanded It has been moved....It should be returned to Egypt of course.Iam not saying this because I'm Egyption. But because it's not true that we can't take care of our history..We can.
To people who say that it's not ok to be proud of your country and you should only be proud of what you achieved. You don't think that demanding a piece of your home is overrated right?? it's just like that.
I really don't belive that some people don't think That R.S belongs to Egypt....
>>>Could anyone try to show his reasons ??
