This morning I was listening to the game between the USA and Slovenia in Spanish and it occurred to me that soccer is much more exciting in Spanish than it is in English. Having listened to games on the radio in Brazil long ago, I also remember it being better in Portuguese.

Some commentators are better than others, regardless of nationality or language.

That is true, however, I've never heard an American or British soccer commentator that was actually exciting to listen to. I guess this isn't necessarily the same for all sports. Basketball, American Football, and Australian Football are exciting in English, but, of course, the latter two are sports I've never really listened to in another language. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I have heard British football commentators that are exciting. I don't know if I've ever heard a Swedish commentator that was exciting to listen to. They always sound dull. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I always try to watch gymnastics in Spanish when I can, just to practice, but I really prefer to watch in English. The commentators in Spanish tend to get the names (of skills and gymnasts wrong) and just in general not know what they're talking about! If I knew Japanese or Romanian, I have a feeling I would like to watch gymnastics in those languages, since I already do and the commentators always seem so exciting (although I can't understand what they are saying).

I don't think Americans are fun to listen to; they generally don't know anything about soccer and lack passion. If anyone here is watching the World Cup in America on ESPN/ABC, I really like the British commentators. They have interesting things to say and are sensible. I have. They sounded rather dull and lifeless in Spanish, but perhas it was just the commentator(s).

I like listen to football in Latvian, lol. There is this ceommentator named Anatolijs Kreipāns. He knows everything about every team and every football player. I don't understand how he can remember all that shit.
