It surprises me that nobody so far has mentioned the sacrosanct Portuguese fado tradition with its sorrowful ladies clad in black and its two kinds of guitar players strumming away respectfully in the darkened background.

It's commercial and very poppy (yes, I invented a word), but I like Sandy e Junior. They split up a few years ago but had like 15 years of music.
