English has conquered every language it has come into contact with, starting with Welsh and Gaelic, followed by all of the native languages of North America
What I find frustrating is listening to a speech by Putin or Medvedev and it seems like half the words are English, not international words, but English. A lot of Russian-English translators are going to be out of work soon. One major language that has resisted the imposition of English is Mandarin, even their English-based words sound totally Mandarin. Some smaller languages like Armenian and Icelandic are virtually free of English influence. Armenian TV dramas use a lot more Russian words than English. Practically every other sentence has "dazhe" (even) or "prosto" (simply) in it. 1 person has voted this message useful |
