This is a bit of a variation of this thread about music where if one had to try to "sell" one's target language(s) sound to the average but indifferent outsider using a song, which would it be? To keep this from overlapping with the other thread, I strongly suggest that there be only one song per target language. I got to thinking about this reading the comments on YouTube for various clips of songs where people get fired up about wanting to start learning the song's language because it impresses them so deeply.
I'll start:
Finnish: Erämaan Viimeinen (Nightwish)
Hungarian: Hej Dunáról (NOX)
Northern Saami: Ii Iđit vel (SomBy)
Polish: Świdryga i Midryga (Żywiołak)
Slovak: Pelikán (Jana Kirschner)
You can see that I'm rather biased toward folk or folk-like music. On the other hand I like these for the purpose of demonstrating what the language sounds like since in some songs, it can become quite difficult to discern the sounds even for native speakers.
Nevertheless this was tough since I could have come up with other choices for these languages. Unfortunately I'm not yet well-acquainted with Latvian and Ukrainian music and am unable to come up with a song in each of those languages for "demonstration purposes".
I'm curious what others' choice would be for their target languages. I'm sure that Serpent could offer something different for Finnish, for example... ;-)

Ukrainian: Ой у гаю при Дунаю (Тріо Мареничів)
Romanian: Lume, lume (Maria Tănase)
Azerbaijani: Tez gəl (Şövkət Ələkbərova)
Persian: Yare Shirin (یار شیرین) (Leila Forouhar)

Okay, this will be a long list, but let's get it started:
German: Silbermond - Unendlich - because it shows German from the perspective still unbelievable for most of people - ROMANTIC
French: Lââm - Petite sœur - something typical for French music yet several years ago - even if commercial, something sounded different. But now everything is already the same (crap)
Italian: Cesare Cremonini - Vieni a vedere perchè - reminiscenting the times, when Italian music didn't bore me...
Russian: Zемфира - Итоги (The second choice would be t.A.T.u.
Latin: John Paul II - Pater noster Well... Passing over the 'performer', it's probably the most famous Latin 'song'
Bulgarian: Пепа - Евтини мераци Even if sometimes shameful, it IS a part of modern Bulgarian culture
Macedonian: Каролина Гочева - Мојот свет
Slovene: Alya - Občutek - it was one of the first two songs that I've really liked. Later has come much more of them, but this still seems to be something like my Slovene anthem.
Persian: سپیده - به هم میرسیمMy favourite Persian song - here in a slightly different version because of live instruments
Dutch: Marco Borsato - RoodSong-legend. Already.
Mandarin: 周杰伦 - 牛仔很忙 - proving that in China there IS a world outside the ballads :P
Czech: Traband - O malém rytíři Hmm, here I had enormous doubts what to show, but eventually I've chosen this one.
Swedish: Linda Begtzing - Alla flickor - Please don't kill me, but I love Swedish schlagers!
English: Spice Girls - Spice Up Your Life/Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit - here I HAD to choose 2 different songs since they show two different faces of current music industry - which is overwhelmed by English language culture.
It looks like I almost entirely listen to pop music, but believe me, my last.fm can prove it's not true :D

German:
Almost anything by Udo Lindenberg, but
Die Klavierlehrerin because it's
such fun, clever, and a bit naughty.

As for Arabic I think some of religious anashiid sound amazing and really show the beauty of the language, like
for example this one or
this one. Also the
prayer call can sound very beautiful.
For Spanish my favourites are
Paloma Negra (Mexican) from the original
soundtrack of the movie "Frida" and
El Carretero by Buena Vista Social Club (Cuban).
I usually like Japanese better in the spoken form, so I don't really listen to Japanese songs a lot, but I kind of liked
Fukai Mori by Do As Infinity.
There aren't any modern songs in Latin, much less any ones that show the sound of the language, but Carl Orff's
O Fortuna is of course the most epic song of all
time. Also there are Gregorian chants but i couldn't find any good ones.

Fantastic to find another Shiina Ringo fan! My favourite isn't in Japanese so I guess
it's no good for this thread, but anyway, find it here:
