Should I replace the underlined word "that" with "those"?
"By the way, some scholars indicated in Papers from the Parasession on the Lexicon (1978) that enhancing reading speed in one language has positive effect in that of other languages." No, “that” is correct. It refers to “reading speed”, so it should be singular.

I would rewrite as:
"By the way, scholars have indicated in Papers from Parasession on the Lexicon (1978) that enhancing the reading speed in one language has a positive effect on reading speeds in others". If this is any kind of formal writing, "by the way" needs to be taken out, and the environment rephrased. Also, the qualifier "some" should be avoided as much as possible in formal writing. 1 person has voted this message useful |
