This evening I wanted to consult something to my friend via Facebook chat. However, she kept replying in Japanese and I couldn't figure out what she meant. Here is the conversation:

Me: "califa-san...?"
My friend: "何？"
Me: "boleh curhat sesuatu...?"
My friend: "どぞ。。。"
Me: ""dozo" ki artine opo?"
My friend: "自分でしらべてください"
Me: "ummm... please speak/write Indonesian/English/­Javanese... aq ra mudeng..."
My friend: "今、日本人とをはなしています、IME pad　をかわるてめんどうくさい。。。
このまま話しよう"
Me: ""Ima, nihon jin to wo hanashiteimasu, IME pad wo kareru temendendousai... kono mama gosho"
Damn, even though I can (?) read it I have no idea what they mean... Tak SMS wae ya mengko?"
My friend: "答えられません"
Me: "why?"
My friend: "pulsaはない"
Me: "yo wis lah, tunggu wae..."


For those who are curious about the non-Japanese parts, here is the translation:

No offense, but changing IMEs takes like one tenth of a second if you have hotkeys enabled. Your friend was pretty rude not to change IMEs for you, and all the more if all you wanted was to ask a question. (By the way, did she answer it?)

While I hate it when people use me as a dictionary like that, waste my time to save their time. I wouldn't even want to continue with the conversation. I think the friend was pretty nice to have continued!

Yes, you're absolutely right! Keeping using a language the other person doesn't understand is a paragon of kindness. Btw, your social skills really impress me!

But OP does know Japanese. S/he understood most of what califa-san wrote.

Oh man, you have a misunderstanding. The one I wanted to consult wasn't about language at all. I asked what "dozo" meant because she replied "どぞ" which I knew read "dozo" but didn't know the meaning.

Well, not really. I can read them (except 自, 分, and 答), but I don't know the meaning.

It's a program incorporated into pretty much all operating systems that enables you to change keyboards (for example, from English into Japanese) without actually having your OS in that language. I don't know anybody who can type in Japanese without using it, so your friend had to have been using it. BTW, you can read more about IME here (sorry, no article in Bahasa Indonesia :( ).

OK, I'm sorry, I thought OP knew quite some Japanese as s/he responded to all the Japanese lines correctly.
