Not only did I find a blogspot devoted to my grandfather's hometown of Hampton, Nebraska, population 432, it just happens to be written in Esperanto.
What are the odds?

Could any esperanto speakers help me out off-line? Or on-line, if you think it'd be fun.

Sorry, I'd love to help, buy my Esperanto is appalling.
Still quite an interesting blog. I could do with "trying" to decipher the comments.

Go for it!
I actually found an "Esperanto translator" on the Internet, but don't let that stop you! It's a very funny blog.

The first picture caption says "Another very hot summer day" (though sumera should be somera)
The next picture is captioned as "On a clear day"
The next picture caption is "Our little railway" and below it says "Our railway is busy transporting our unique
culture to the world" Note: mundo (world) should be mondo
The next picture says "Hill of the death" I suspect they mean hill of the dead, thus Mortuloj should be used
instead of morto. Below it says "Here is the hill where we entomb those (who) had practiced heresy. May God
have mercy on their souls. The footnote says "It is forbidden to stay here during the night"
The next picture is captioned as "Where I live". Below it says: "I live in a little town called hampton. It is a
peaceful community with only 432 citizens. Although, in past years, we had almost 500 citizens, but many of
them were lost because of vampires. We now have a law which forbids vampires.
The final picture caption is : "Our telephone"
It says underneath: "Here is the telephone of our town. It is bright and black -- similar to those in other big
cities. We use it to speak with people in other places."
