So, I have been in China for around 3 1/2 months now. I think it is time for me to get serious about this language learning abroad thing NOW! I have been taking Chinese classes at my school for 3 months as well and have been progressing much quicker than if I were at home, though for me I am not putting enough effort into this. From today I am creating my own lessons and talking to many people so as to put the most amount of effort I can into this. My goal for myself is to be albe to have a full unbroken conversation by the end of this year (on topics that I know about). I don't care much about my HSK scores because I will know that I have tried my hardest this year.

For the past few months I have only been studying by the book and working on writing by writing characters over and over. I realized today I cannot keep learning like this. My chinese friend said that my tones are really bad and that I can sometimes be barely understood. I think this brought me back to Earth from my teachers always complimenting me so much. I am the type of person who sadly doesn't have that great of a memory... but it doesn't mean I will have to be disadvantaged. I tend to remember things that I thought were fun. I will have to think outside the box and make games out of my studying so that I ensure what I am working on stays in my head for a long time. Any suggestions would be great! :D This "brick wall" is not as hard as I thought it would be to break! Its GOING DOWN!

I'll do what I always do: recommend ChinesePod. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it worked for me and they have free lessons and a free trial week, so you could try it and see if you like it.

So today is about 2 weeks before I go back home from china.. I have passed the HSK 3 and have had successful conversations with little to no mistakes in them. I have passed my goal for this year. i need to set an even harder goal for next year so that my chinese doesn't get worse once i get back home. maybe goal of passing HSK 4 or is that too much considering that i will be studying normal classes when i get back?
