It's been a while since I posted here.
No more formal approach to language learning for me (i.e, grammar, vocab lists). I now read, speak, write or watch something intended for natives of the language, that I find interesting. It's amazing how much you pick up, and it's so enjoyable. German - Die Liebenden von Leningrad A soppy love story that my fiencée cried through from start to finish. I said I'd read it, but I couldn't stomach it in English, so I'm half-way through the German version. French - Le Tour du monde en 80 jours This book is a real classic. Ran through it yesterday, reading French, listening French. It only takes 7 hours to get through, perfect for L-R. I like going through the whole book in one go - by the end of it, your brain is wired up in the target language. A German friend has been running a Stammtisch on Thursdays from 6 till 8 at the local club, a great way to have a few laughs and try out new ways of expressing yourself. Recommend it to anybody. French Did the first run-through in (listen French / read English) mode over the last two nights of Le Tour de monde en 80 jours, around 3.5 hours a night. After 3.5 hours, I feel like I'm really getting into it, but it's around midnight by that stage and I work full-time. On the plus side, I'm seeing the same results with French L-R as I did with German L-R with Harry Potter and The Hobbit. It seems the French-English parallel text I'm using is a little lacking in some places - I find myself getting lost when just reading the English, but can follow along fine when skipping back and forth between the two.
