I finished the Schäuble book :p
I haven't transferred the set of vocabulary from my notebook to cards, yet. That will be the next task. The cards are getting pretty used. They've all been recycled about 3-4 times (with white-out/correction fluid), and it's gettin' kind of bumpy to write the front. All the definitions are still on the backs -- I leave that for review.
I'm really anxious to see which book comes next. I've ordered a few from the list (the Bücherei was no help). None of the books on the GI list are particularly interesting. Just for that I've ordered Empört Euch(/ Indignez-vous!, Stéphane Hessel) which is not on the list but it's on the bestseller list -- I thought I could broaden my horizons with it. There's gotta be something in there that can inspire great Ansätze. (It certainly looks more interesting than what I've been reading, but I'm afraid that's not saying much...)
My ÜE is stuck in E-Mail purgatory. The file is damaged. Thanks to too much reworking and my incompatible kind-of-like-Word-program, the file is unopenable, unworkable, un, un, un. The second attempt to send and open was Friday and it failed. Next step ist to write another Email to my tutor---to make the long story short I have nothing pressing to do right now.
I'm going to do an Inhaltsangabe (ju-hu) of Schäuble. After that I should be able to ingest and spit it out on an exam. oops, that was a bit graphic.. Well, it's true. I have to be able to do a bang-up interpretation, despite it being a long and boring book. All the words are great, it's the way that he puts them together that's boring. I'll go do some grammar to liven things up a bit :)
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've been given another student of German. I'm supposed to be doing Eng. on Sat, but she needs help with her writing. She's in the 12te Klasse. Actually she's got exactly the same trouble with writing that I have -- Themastellung/Textanalyse. I think we can help each other. I went over stilistische Mittel with her today. The Prüfungsaufgaben for the Realschulabchluß (Stark) is pretty good. Getting through that will only help. hopefully I'll have time to get the most I can out of it..

I've been reading too much economics lately. I should have said "Aufsätze".

Sunday is like gold. I get to work on my languages! Here's my task for today:
I'll be working on Part D of the "Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom". Teil D are the questions to the books that are on the booklist. Two books have to come from a chosen Fach (I chose Wirtschaft) and 2 books have to come from Landeskunde. I have 120 minutes to write about two of the books -- I get one question for each book. There's criteria but I won't go into it.. Don't want to bore anyone.
Here's what a question could look like:
PIPER, Nikolaus: Willkommen in der Wirklichkeit
a) Was versteht man unter "Sozialer Gerechtigkeit"? Wie möchte der Autor diesen Begriff erweitern?
b) Woran krankt die gesetzliche Krankenversicherung? Beschreiben Sie eignige Lösungsvorschläge.
So that's what I'm up against. I plan to break the Schäuble book down (Inhaltsangabe) and then do a couple of excercises "Arbeitsschritte" which I've gotten from the Realschulabschluß-Buch to help me analyse the content. It's like I'm in school again! I'll be doing this only today because tomorrow I have other obligations, plus I'll be getting another book in the mail. Once I get a new book I'll want to read it and not do this. So I'd better get to it..
EDIT: ARGH! My husband just checked the mail and I've already gotten two of the books. Empört Euch (what a cute little Buchlein) aaaaaaaand (unwrapping the mail).... UGH.. more economics! I was really hoping to get one of the others from the list but... Klartext from Wolfgang Clement (ehemaliger Ministerpräsident für Nordrhein-Westfalen) came first.
EDIT2: Okay it's been about four hours. I've been interrupted now and again. (my daughter is working on Sternchenaufgaben/HA and I had to help) It hasn't worked out as systematic and methodical as I wanted but I've ended up paraphrasing and summarizing several pages: the Einleitung and the first section, "Sicherheit in Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft". Actually it's necessary. I need to make sure I can actively use these words -- or at least write them on paper. I'm so out of practice and the subjectmatter is -- gewöhnungsbedürftig -- to say the least. That's enough of that. Time for French!!

Another book came today! One from the "Landeskunde" section of the Goethe Inst. list.
I think I'll start it, Die rote Erzherzogin, it sounds more interesting than Clement's economics. I'll get to refresh what I know of the Habsburgs.
No word yet from my tutor. My corrections may be coming in the mail. I don't know if he was able to retrieve anything from the damaged file. I've been anxious to do something so I sent my summary of the first chapters to Lang-8. I don't expect to get a response right away -- they're down for maintenance -- but maybe in a few days..

23.3
Grammars from the Hueber book: Wortfamilien u. Transitive and Intransitive Verbs, urteilen, verteilen, erteilen u.A.
Schäuble book: "Maß u. Mitte" (trying to reread it and get it in my head -- Wörter wie "Wertschöpfung" gehd einfoch ned rein)
No cards today. I did a lot for French, though..
Vorarbeit, die rote Erzherzogin (reading Wiki)
24.3
Grammars: Wortfamilien u. Transitive and Intransitive Verbs (finished with this section!)
I got a response back from the Goethe Inst. -- the file was fixed and I was able to access it okay
Here's the commentary from my tutor:
Ihr Aufsatz liest sich gut! Aber das hatte er schon in der ersten Fassung getan. Sie haben jetzt noch mehr Gründe aufgeführt, weshalb eine Ehe scheitern kann. Und das haben Sie auch sehr gut gemacht, aber Sie haben immer noch nicht auf den Knackpunkt des Themas abgehoben, warum nämlich Ehen in immer kürzerer Zeit geschieden werden. (.. ......)
I'll take a look at the next Übungseinheit on Sunday. I have plenty of time (Kursbetreuung umfasst 9 Mo.!)
Right now I'm trying to do some work with these books. I'm having a really hard time rereading the Scäuble book today -- simple lack of motivation. The stuff is tiresome a second time. It must be done. I have to get a grip on the content before I begin my next book, which I'd like to start reading for April.

I've only worked on index cards today. I've lost a lot of hours already because of "spring forward" and I've got a bummer of a cold.
I'm feeling kind of lethargic this afternoon so I think I'll just work on reviewing the schäuble book. April is my deadline to finish it. Then I'll move onto the next book.
I decided to postpone Übungseinheit 5 to tomorrow morning. The house will be empty and I can try to simulate the testing conditions -- no dictionary, only a pencil some paper and a stopwatch. It will be tempting to run to the computer (I'm not used to writing an essay of 700 words with paper and pencil!!) but I have to take advantage of this being my ultimate learning time. I have the time! I might as well use it and make all the mistakes now and not when I'm taking the test. puh, if I can get to the testing center, that is...
Na ja, the test is still a long way away...
EDIT for Sunday: it wasn't fun, but I got through the section of the Schäuble book, "Maß und Mitte". I have a nicely organized Inhaltsangabe (summarized content) for future study reference :)

I got a Bewertung for the Übungseinheit 5. BLAH. It wasn't so great. I missed the theme by about a mile. I just finished reading the comments from my tutor (I can see him wagging his finger -- because he did tell me so). The good news is that if this were the test I'd pass this part even with the content being off.
I got 26 out of 36 points. (36 is the max and 18 is not sufficient to pass). I guess that'd be a "4" in terms of German marks.
Bewertung:
Inhalt: 5 Punkte
Grammatische Korrektheit: 10 Punkte
Ausdruck: 11 Punkte
I find it hard just to write on something I can't back up with fact. I guess I still have trouble writing an Eröterung -- just like it was when I was in school!
I'm also having a hard time finding a 3-hour block of time in which to write. I'm trying to simulate the testing conditions but I keep getting interrupted. The next block of time should be Thursday morning. I'll try and shoot for that.

I've put off writing my Aufsatz. I need to work on building blocks for a while.
I've been reading dasZEIT for the past few hours. At the recommendation of the GI I'm keeping a notebook (yes, another one) with the names of all the articles I'm reading for Wirtschaft, Familie, Kultur, Gesundheit... and other themes that will most likely be the subject of an essay. I've started jotting down all the words and phrases that belong to a given theme -- sort of a gut bestückter saladbar of phrases. Some I think I can use anywhere like, "Umgekehrt ist es verständlich, wenn", und "Damit steigt tendenziell das Risiko", oder "wie es ist hierzulande".
I'm going to work on this collection of leckerbissens for the next week and postpone sending my next ÜE. I think I can draw it out for about a week or so. After I'm done I'll write my next Aufsatz.
I haven't started my new book yet. Still dissecting the Schäuble book and working on French.
