Here's what I found for you. I hope it helps: Albanian Literature.net The site appears to have some translations of folktales into English and could be a good resource for further searching.
The next site has a link to a scribd document which you can read on-line or download with a free account: anekdota popullore
Amazon UK has a bilingual Albanian/English book for £6.75 Ali Baba and the FortyThieves
I also found, at Albanian.com, a forum dedicated to Albanian language:
Albanian Language Forum

Well...I've been bloody useless the last few days. I can;t seem to drag myself away from
Italian. This isn't a bad thing, as I need to be doing some study every day.
I have a week off work at the end of the month, so I'm going to do a little intensive
learning, 9-5, five days should do the trick.
I have been watching some Albanian TV. I'm still a little in awe at the sound of it. I've
also been listening to lots of Italian music lately, and it's definitely beneficial. I'll
do the same with Shqip in future. Need to learn more words first tho :)

Today I did some more study of 'Spoken Albanian', covering basic greetings, how are you,
things like that. Struggling to fit Albanian into my work/Italian schedule, but every
little helps.
EDIT: I meant to say I've been using my Italian assimil with ease alot more the last week,
I can't wait for them to produce an Albanian version!
Plus I keep mentioning Italian, so I may as well make this about my Italian studies too.
I'm learning them for essentially the same reasons.

I started learning Albanian seven years ago when I made it to Albania for the first time. I have a good fluency now and I'm definitively happy with this choice. So good luck mr Chinnery! I just suggest you to try to speak Albanian as much as possible, since there are many words and constructions which can be properly understood only if used.

I find it very interesting to find a person who's interested in learning Albanian - the
only problem is probably the extreme dearth of materials as compared to many other
languages, but if you want some original materials, you can find some here:
http://setimes.com/ Multilingual news from South Eastern
Europe.
http://www.voanews.com/albanian/news/
This page should actually be on every language learner's list since you can find audio
material for so many different languages there, combined with texts of the audio - a
DIY language course, almost... With regards to Albanian, there's also a Youtube section
of their news broadcasts (from
VOA)http://www.youtube.com/user/zeriameri
kes
There's also quite a lot of material here:
http://gloss.dliflc.edu/ With regards to the
difficulty, I'm not sure it's for beginners, but at least it's something in Albanian.
Also, there are some quite expansive dictionaries for Albanian: an Oxford Albanian-
English dictionary, and an English-Albanian dictionary by Hippocrene/Ramazan Hysa.
Apart from that I don't know what else to say - maybe that it's a shame you don't know
German, since you would have access to some good looking materials for Albanian, like a
phrasebook with audio (Kauderwelsch) and a very good course book with audio. (Lehrbuch
der vereinheitlichten albanischen Schriftsprache, different editions)
Nevertheless, good luck with Albanian!

I've been so busy lately, my language learning has really suffered. I've completely
stopped using Pimsleur for Italian, and moved onto concentrating on Assimil, which I'm
finding alot better than I thought I would.
My routine is to do an Assimil lesson, then put some Italian TV on and read a grammar
book or translate some of 'Va dove ti porta il cuore'. I like to shift amongst
resources. It seems when you get stuck on one or stop enjoying it, and move onto
another, that the first is easier when you go back to it. I think I'm getting a good
grip on grammar. I have made a concerted effort to spend more time on grammar than
vocabulary in these early stages and I'm enjoying it.
As for Albanian, I've been reading this
http://www.seelrc.org:8080/grammar/pdf/albanian_bookmarked.p df in conjunction with my
textbook, and some things are starting to make sense. I really need to get the Pimsleur
course and get the sounds of Albanian absolutely nailed.
Falemnderit, Dragomanno! Purtroppo non ho molte opportunita di parlare Italiano, ancora
meno albanese! Sono semplicemente cercando imparare quanto piu posso, fino a quando io
ritorno in italia e in albania.
Thanks also Danac. You are right about the shortage of resources in English, but it
adds to the challenge :) I'm just crossing my fingers that Assimil bring out an
Albanian book: that would be so good!
