Hei. Minun nimi on Nicolai. Olen Tanskasta, ja rakastan Suomen ja Suomen Kielin. Suomi (ja Norja) on hyvyys maat Pohjoissa, ajatulen. Olen kirjalla "Finnish - An Essential Grammar", ja olen lukenut viisi tuntit.
Soitan kitara (suomen metalliimusikki) mutta se on vaikea. Ajatulen suomen sanoa on helppo, koska puhun tanskan kieli, ja hyvin äänit on [the same], mutta suomen r on vaikea. Olein suomessa elokuussa 2010ssa, ja olisin Suomessa Kesäkuukin 2011, koska puhuisin suomen kieli. Näkemiin! 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I really don't know what to write so I will just bore whoever is reading with my day (hoping it will be somewhat comprehensible after about 6 hours of study excluding the time I've used on flashcards).
Still having huge issues with word order and consonant graduation (and a lot other things too, I bet!). Ei tänä aamuna oli tumma. Asun tanskassa joka Tuokokuussa aamut ei on tumma. Join kahvia ja söin maissihiutaleet (?) aamun. Pian luin minun sanalistatni (flash cards, trying to strick to strict Finnish). Luin jälkeen Savon Sanomat mutta on vaikeakin. Jokainen minun talossani ajattelevat koska haluaisin oppia suomea. Ajattulen joka Pohjoin kielet on kaunia. Täläänkin olen lukevat "Finnish Grammar", mutta se on vaikea (mutta hyvää) kirjaa, koska ei sillä on ainet. Suomen sanoja nupea opin. Eilen sanakirja (?) tein. En oli tehnyt tänään! I will try to update this every day as I progress. If nobody replies then this most certainly still is valuable, considering I subconciously (I bet every human does) check what I write before making it public here, improving (hopefully). Näkemiin. Hei Nicolai! Hienoa että opiskelet suomea! Kirjoituksesi on jo varsin ymmärrettävää.
Just a few comments that might be helpful (not trying to be comprehensive) "Tumma" is used for things such as skin colour or the blend of coffee. For expressing how it looks outside, you can use "pimeä" = dark, "valoisa" = bright, or "hämärä" = somewhere in between. "maissihiutaleet" = "the cornflakes". Without any further information about what is meant, it might mean all the cornflakes that you had in your house, or even all the cornflakes in the world ;) What you mean to say is: "maissihiutaleita" = "cornflakes" = some cornflakes "sanalistatni" -> sanalistani "jälkeen" -> either "sen jälkeen" = after that, or "jälleen" = again "Jokainen" is singular like "everyone" in English: "everyone thinks", not "everyone think". Similarly "Jokainen ajattelee", not "Jokainen ajattelevat". However, this is usually expressed by using "kaikki" (which is not singular :)). Therefore, the natural-sounding beginning would be "Kaikki minun talossani ajattelevat..." "koska" means because: here you want to say "miksi" meaning why.
Täläänkin -> tänäänkin lukevat = "they are reading", you probably mean "olen lukenut" = I have read "ei sillä on ainet" - not sure about the intended meaning "nupea opin" - If "nupea" = "nopea" = quick, then the correct phrase is "Opin suomen sanoja nopeasti" = I learn Finnish words quickly. Thanks a lot for commenting! It was exactly this kind of feedback I was hoping to recieve, so it is really appreciated! I will work on what you've said! Oh, and you can be as comprehensive as you want, because in that case I will learn to speak/write better Finnish! On the other hand I don't want anyone to waste half of their day in here, correcting me. But yes, it is really appreciated, kiitos!
EDIT: I was trying to spell "nopea" yes, but I actually meant hidas, which then would be hidasti? Sillä was supposed to be "it has" (se + adessive case ending), and ainet "tasks" or "exercises". Tänään autaisin minun isäni. Se haluaisin ostaa kitaran. Ostan kitaran sen puolesta koska että tiedän kiatarat. Huomenna kirjoitan ainen kuolun puolesta. En lukenu (?) Finnish Grammar tänään, mutta lukisin (?) tämän iltanan. Nyt luen sanalistani. Huomenna kirjoitaisinkin harva sanalistet (flash cards). Almost! The stem of the word undergoes a bit of a transformation in this case, and becomes "hitaasti". Incidentally, "hidasti" happens to be a Finnish word as well: it is the 3rd person singular imperfect for verb "hidastaa": he/she/it slowed down.
Ok, I think I´m starting to understand, a bit ;) "Sillä on" means exactly "it has", no problem there. "Aine" (plural "aineet" = the school-essays or "aineita" = school-essays, or some school-essays, or any school-essays) has the basic meaning of "stuff" or "substance", and for some peculiar reason the same word is actually used for school-essays as well. However, here you would want to use "tehtävä" = task, or even better, "harjoitus" = exercise. The "ei" in the beginning probably means that you meant to say that "It does not have any exercises". To express the thought I would probably say "se ei sisällä harjoituksia" = it does not contain exercises. Although "sillä ei ole" would be grammatically just fine, in Finnish it often sounds weird to claim that inanimate objects possess (or don´t possess) something. (Although I just realised that one can say e.g., that "kirjalla on kansi", but that is most naturally interpreted as something like "a book is a kind of entity that has a cover" - that is, a general statement about the nature of books.) And by the way, I don´t have any training in teaching Finnish, and I´m making these explanations up as I go, so don´t put too much weight on them :) 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||
