New Text hours: 13hrs 45mins
Total L-R hours: 23hrs 25mins

In order to assist those interested in L-R, I'm branching off from my TAC log and
creating this separate record.

For those unfamiliar with the L-R method, you can find the thread that started it all
TID=6366&PN=1">here.

I'm using printed and bound copies of the following parallel texts, with accompanying
audio:
    - Jules Verne - Le Tour du monde en 80 jours (06:42)
    - Victor Hugo - Notre Dame de Paris (19:32)
    - Alexandre Dumas - Les trois mousquetaires (26:58)

Apparently, one needs between 80 - 120 hours of L-R, with exposure to a minimum of
around 40 hours of new text, to get to the natural listening stage, so my choice of
above texts seems in order (I have 53hrs 12mins of new text).

My background in French is basic - around 6 months ago I did the Michel Thomas basic
and advanced courses, and 12 months ago I worked through French in 3 Months.

The end goal, of course, is natural listening, and being able to understand and use
French comfortably. I plan on doing a lot of conversing with local French people at the
tail end of this assault.

23rd May
- Jules Verne - Le Tour du monde en 80 jours
- 20:15 - 23:15 (3hrs)
- Step 1 - Reading English
- Step 2 - Listening French, Reading French

I have difficulty separating spoken French into distinct words, so Step 2 is my first port of call. Also peeking across at the English to get an overview of the story, satisfying Step 1.

Finished my first run through of this text. I feel confident now in recognizing most French words when hearing them spoken. This is a really enjoyable text, which I can imagine is critical for effective L-R.

This really feels like just enjoying a good story, rather than learning French. Keeping up well, though lost my place a few times (as to be expected).

Finished rather late, but couldn't put the book down till I'd finished it. Really started to follow the French quite well tonight.

Started going back through this wonderful story once more, but I started to tire of the plot. I know the "official" thread suggests to go through up to three times, but I think I'll come back to this one later.

That's the backlog taken care of - I didn't want to start a log on here like this until I could do some initial testing of the idea.

If you're currently using L-R or a similar method, I'd love to hear from you, and how you're getting on with it.

Wasn't really feeling this book after an hour of L-R, and since it's so important to find
books you enjoy, I'm going to leave this one aside for the moment.
