Nobody in this thread has suggested that we should use new technology for its own sake.
The opposing views expressed in this thread show that they are subjective, not objective.
It's true that analogue sound has its advantages. However, the sound quality of most cassettes is not as good as that of vinyl records or CDs, and language learning materials are rarely masterpieces of music anyway. Besides, unless you use decent playback equipment it doesn't matter at all.
They bring back warm memories from my childhood, but just like steam engines, they have been replaced by better technology.

Cainntear, could you keep an eye out for the Linguaphone Persian course, when you next go to a used bookshop? I've called quite a few, but I never found a copy. The British Library has a copy, but I don't think they would lend it out, or allow me to scan it in the library. I'm fairly sure it's out of copyright, and it would make a nice intermediate course to put online. I could get friends to make new recordings.
