Yeah, something without exercises would be good, although I could always just skip the exercises.
@lingoleng: I may study German, but I certainly can't read books in German. I'm a total noob in that language.
I'm thinking a reference book would be best. I do know quite a bit about grammar already. I'm just looking to get the finer points.

Another idea might be to find something similar to English Grammar for Students of Spanish. As you aren't studying Spanish, you probably wouldn't want this particular book, but maybe a similar book has been published in one of your target languages?
The books features concise explanations of all the basic grammatical concepts and compares/contrasts English structures with their equivalent (or nearly equivalent) Spanish structures. I haven't worked through it yet, but the nice thing about this book is that it will allow me to kill two birds with one stone.
Update: I checked Amazon and they also offer English Grammar for Students of German and English Grammar for Students of French in this series.
