Hello,
I have been studying Korean for a while now and I'm soon approaching the high- elementary - low-intermediate level. Usually people tell you that hanja is for advanced learners only, but I've read opinions from more advanced learners that learning them earlier wouldn't hurt, simply because they make the acquisition of new vocabulary noticeably easier, apparently. I searched the forum for similar topics, but all I found were threads from 2005-2007, so I was afraid some of the information would be outdated. Anyway, what would be a good hanja book (or another similar form of media) for a self- learner like me? Preferably a one that focuses on all aspects of hanja (writing, reading, combinations, stroke order et cetera.)? That book is more like an concise dictionary. Not bad to have around as a reference but not a good tool to learn Hanja on its own. My books are in storage so I can't give you any specific names but be happy to know that there are a fair number of good books out there now. Another approach may be to use something for teaching Chinese characters to students of Chinese and just skipping the pronunciation. I've never used it but a lot of people seem to like Remembering Traditional Hanzi: Book 1, How Not to Forget the Meaning and Writing of Chinese Characters by James W. I don't know much about Korean or learning it, but I always see this book at bookstores:
Korean Reader for Chinese Characters It seems to be more of a textbook that you can learn out of instead of a reference book, though I think it presupposes a decent level of Korean already. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I have used this book and I found it to be wonderful. It introduces you to 500 common Hanja over the course of 40 chapters, giving you practice reading and writing them both in isolation and combined into words, with each chapter also featuring a short intermediate-level text in mixed script to both practice your Korean in general and your Hanja in an applied context. Another valuable resource is hanja.naver.com. I refer to this site regularly, and I find it to be very useful. You can search for individual Hanja either by writing them in Hangeul or by drawing them into a box. That book looks promising indeed, I might look into it... But I'm also curious to know any books or series that cover the entire 1800 hanja (if there are any)... 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

They have hanja dictionary on most Korean websites.
naver yahoo etc You need to know Korean to read it, quite advanced, however they are very good. 1 person has voted this message useful |
