Wow!
Now my only problem is that at my current speed of Devanagari reading it would take me ages to get through that material (I've always prioritized the spoken language over written), so definitely more time than I currently have for a language with which I am just flirting (for now;)! So I've downloaded all the files for Bengali (and Marathi and Gujarati :), and once my Hindi skills are better I'll definitely be able to put it to good use... thanks!
[I do already have one not-so-great book on Bengali, picked up on my most recent trip to India, and partially read on the plane on the way back, but the stuff in your link will be FAR more helpful... but only once I am ready for it ;)]
As far as materials in Hindi for Sanskrit, there's tons of material available... in India. (All really cheap too :) But I know of nothing online myself... So assuming you can't take a trip there anytime soon :), you might put some effort into finding someone who is there and coming to Norway soon, they can probably find a whole bunch of books on the topic that each cost less than the equivalent of 1 Euro (or its Kroner equivalent... I actually stock up on language books when I go there...) Not ideal and not exactly what you seek and possibly not even practical at all for you, but I mention it only because there is really so much material for learning Sanskrit from Hindi and you should try to take advantage of it in SOME way if it interests you enough...

A word of caution!! Whatever you do, just never try to learn bengali by going through the bengali wikipedia pages. The writing is completely wrong. Although the letters and symbols are correct, the writing arrangement is completely messed up. It took me (a native speaker) 5 minutes to decypher a single small sized paragraph. Unfortunately so far I have not come across any really good material in the net...your best bet will be to get in touch with people who can speak the language.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with Bangla Wikipedia, rather it is YOUR browser which is incorrectly set up and cannot display Unicode Bangla (or, for that matter, any other unicode Indic script).
You, and others having such problems can solve this by going to the control panel and enabling complex script support. Details can be found at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:INDIC
Thanks

Thanks for your help...I was really shocked to find such horrible writing! Thankfully the fault is in my end and not in the site...after all I dont need to learn the language...;)
For other members...I am sure many of you will be stuck with a similar problem. Please refer to the link posted by Bangla52. Do not use wikipedia before enabling this complex language support feature. GL.

Look what I found!
Bengali language handbook available from ERIC!
It looks like it's got a complete grammar, info about different dialects, literature, poetry, script, sounds etc. Looks pretty good, it was written in 1966 though.
Here is a supposed illustrated phrase book for Bengali and 14 other languages. However, I couldn't get any of the pictures to show. Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe I need to download it...

Peace Corps Bengali
I have just found a Peace Corps course for Bengali with audio, which is fantastic because before this, there weren't really any online resources with audio.
I've had a look through, there are 16 lessons and it doesn't look that comprehensive, although the section at the beginning for pronunciation looks pretty good. It has vocabulary and dialogue sections, and the mp3s are just the pdf read out loud. There aren't any exercises but I think this could be useful for getting the sound of Bengali first, and then following it with a proper textbook like Edward Dimock's books.

I really like
http://www.bengali-dictionary.com/english-bengali-words-phra ses-contents.html
a lot! Sound files too. It has both appropriate words and the phrases.
My new project is to be able to say "Education is the formation of the whole man: intellect, mind, body, spirit and
soul!" so everyone can understand me. (At the moment a Bengali's response would be "Huh? what was that?") :(
