Well, it has been about 2 weeks since I posted an update. Still working through Assimil
as my primary learning source in French and Japanese. Continue working on Kanji
flashcards and reading hiragana. Enjoying Japanese shows on Dramacrazy dot net.
Now that the kids are back in school. We should have a study time after dinner.

Studying when the kids do is great role modeling. Good for you (and good for your children).
So, you're in the active phase in Japanese now, correct? Are you finding it challenging? I've never done Assimil but I'm intrigued by what I've seen of it.

I should be starting the active phase this week; but, I decided to step back and review.
My comprehension was getting worse. Due to some gaps in studying. Consistency is
critical. Now if I can follow my own advice, I will be great. :)

I picked up Pimsleur French III A at the library last night. I put part B on hold and I
am third in line. So, someone around here is studying French. Their Japanese material
is very limited. But, I have enough of material now myself.
They did have a large collection of German material. But, I have a long way to go
before I add another language. My friend is getting transfered to Austria. He has been
traveling to France and got promoted. Him and his wife are fluent in French and now
they have to learn German because it is a 2-3 year assignment. I don't know if we will
get over there to visit.
For the next few weeks, I can go Pimsleur French during my commute and Japanese at
lunch. Hopefully, adding time at night. We talked about having a French night at home.
Maybe we can have French time during dinner. With our schedules that is only a few
times a week; but, better then just once a week.

Having a good week so far. An hour of Pimsleur French during commute. Assimil Japanese
and kanji practice during the day. Doing about 2 hours a day.
I will get to go through the Pimsleur again before I have to return it to the library. I
still have to read the Language Instinct. I renewed it to give me more time.

Keep up the good work, and hope you get to finish the Pimsleur and Assimil real soon.
Also congrats on the cho dan in iaido recently. I'd love to hear more about this on your website.
Incidentally, one of the highest points of my trip to Okinawa five years ago was spending the day with Hamamoto Hisao Sensei, a direct successor of MugaiRyu MushoKai. I just turned up randomly in Naha one morning to visit the famous budokan, but the place was sadly empty. Then Hamamoto Sensei appeared out of the mists and gave me a short lesson, and then drove my ex-girlfriend and I back to his house for a free lunch and showed me the finest personal collection of ancient samurai swords I'd ever seen. A friendlier, kinder man you could never meet, and I must admit, he even bore an uncanny resemblance to many of my childhood martial art movie heroes too. ;)

Thanks Teango.
I have neglected my blog. I have a list of topics to write about. I need to find time
again for that.
Many Sensei are happy to share their love of martial arts. Very few in Japan are
interested in budo except for holiday celebrations. Now, I am jealous. :) My dojo is
taking a trip to Japan next year; but, I don't have the money. But, I hope some day in
the near future to get there.

Practiced Kanji on Saturday. Sunday was a day off, I only did some kanji flashcards. But,
it is fun to recognize more kanji when doing the Assimil lessons. I am even teaching my
Japanese friend root meanings of kanji. They don't learn radicals and don't realize the
parts until they are pointed out. Maybe it is the mathematical mind of mine, but I saw
them before I learned them.
