This is my first TAC participation and this log will hopefully motivate me to continue my language studies regularly throughout 2011.
Spanish
Spanish will be my main language in 2011. My reading skills are probably B2. My writing and speaking skills are much lower, probably A2/B1. When it comes to understanding the language I've got the problem that I understand Latin American Spanish quite well but get into trouble when I hear people from Spain speak. As I plan to pass the DELE exam B2 (or C1 if available then) in November, I need to listen to more European Spanish - but I'm more interested in Latin America ...
Norwegian
In 2010 I learnt a bit of Norwegian on my own and then started a course at the end of September. We're a group of 6 students and have a very nice teacher from Oslo. The current course is ending on February 8 and the next one will start on February 22 - a minimum of 5 participants is necessary, though. So I hope to continue with the group and just do some additional reading and writing and vocabulary studies at home.
--> dropped it in February
Czech
Mastering Czech is my very personal challenge. I love the language but find it very difficult to remember all the grammatical rules and to manage the pronunciation. I hope to reach A2 by the end of 2011.
Portuguese
My kids have recently found some Brazilian family members on Facebook (their father is Brazilian). None of them speaks English or German and my kids don't speak Portuguese, so I'm forced to translate. We lived in Brazil in 1998/9 and I used to speak Portuguese quite well but forgot a lot of it. I'm not sure of my current level, probably still B2 when it comes to reading and understanding but surely no more than A2 regarding my writing and speaking skills.
--> dropped it in February
Well, that was just an overview. I think I'll list my ressources in my next post.

PS: I know that my English is far from being perfect but I just don't feel like studying it actively. However, as I will write most of this log in English, it's practise for me and all corrections are appreciated. Thanks.

Good luck! Nice selection of languages. And I don't care what you say, I wouldn't have guessed you weren't a native English speaker without checking the box on the left! I'd just go for "my personal challenge", the word very just feels odd in that first sentence about Czech. The only mistake that I can find after a quick skim is "resources".
Again good luck, I'm very interested to follow your progress!

Hi nuriayasmin! You're working on a nice variety of languages...I have several that I want to learn, but with Spanish being my first foreign language I figure I better just stick with one at a time, lol! For what it's worth your English looks fine to me. :-)

These are the materials I'm working with. I will update this post whenever I start using new material. And I only listed printed material here. When I work with online resources I will mention the respective websites here in my log.
Spanish
1. Langenscheidt Verbtabellen Spanisch: Spanish verbs
2. PONS Praxis-Grammatik Spanisch: a grammar book with exercises plus a grammar trainer on cd-rom.
3. magazine "ECOS": published in Germany, written in Spanish and includes vocabulary for each article, will be my main source for new vocabulary. I'm a subscriber of this magazine and receive it every month along with an excercise booklet which focuses on a certain aspect of grammar.
4. Audiobooks:
- Miguel de Cervantes: La Española Inglesa
- Lourdes Miquel y Neus Sans: Eres tú, María?
5. Books:
- Mario Vargas Llosa: El sueño del celta: finished on December 31, 2010
- Isabel Allende: La isla bajo el mar
- Laura Esquível: Malinche: finished on February 26, 2011
- Julia Navarra: La Biblia de Barro
7. Telenovelas/films:
- telenovela "Alguien te mira" (Telemundo)
- telenovela "La reina del sur" (Telemundo)
8. ANKI: I'm starting the challenge with 581 cards.
Norwegian
1. We use the book "Et år i Norge" in our course and are supposed to finish it at the end of June. We're doing chapter 14 right now.
2. Books:
- Anne Holt: Mea Culpa
3. Reisewörterbuch Norwegisch: a language guide for travellers I borrowed from the library. I plan to use it to add some more vocabulary to my ANKI desk.
4. Norwegisch Aktiv: This is a cd-rom course I started at the beginning of this year. I'm not using it at the moment because "Et år i Norge" keeps me busy enough but may come back to it during our course holidays.
5. ANKI: I'm starting this challenge with 1,226 cards.
--->> I'm not learning Norwegian anymore
Czech
1. "Langenscheidt Praktischer Sprachlehrgang Tschechisch", a German self-teaching course for Czech, I'm currently doing chapter 5.
2. "Teach yourself Czech"
3. "Czech - An essential grammar"
4. ANKI: I'm starting the challenge with 567 cards.
Portuguese
1. PONS Verbtabellen Portugiesisch: Portuguese verbs
2. PONS Grammatik kurz & bündig: a small book about Portuguese grammar
3. Grund- und Aufbauwortschatz Portugiesisch: lists the 4,000 most important words/expressions
4. Books to read:
- Neil Gaiman: Coraline e a porta secreta
- Giorgio Falletti: Eu mato
5. ANKI: I'm starting a completely new list as I didn't study Portuguese in 2010.
--->> I'm not learning Portuguese anymore
My study plan:
Monday: Spanish and Czech
Tuesday: Portuguese and Norwegian
Wednesday: Spanish and Czech
Thursday: Spanish and Norwegian
Friday: Portuguese and Czech
Saturday: Spanish and Norwegian
Sunday: my choice :-)
I intend to do the ANKI reviews of all languages daily. I also intend to listen to Spanish daily, even if it's just music on the way to work.
Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

This log looks like it will be very interesting to follow. I like your choices of languages, and if you need any help with Spanish or Portuguese, just ask. :)
¡Buena suerte! Lykke til! Hodně štěstí! 頑張って! Boa sorte!

I talked to my son and he doesn't mind when I quit the Japanese classes, so that's exactly what I'll be doing. Japanese remains one of the languages I'd like to learn one day but Portuguese is currently the better choice for me. Last night I talked to my kids' Brazilian aunt via Skype and understood her very well - but when I spoke it was such an embarrassment, that really has to improve again.
Okay, I've got some resources for Portuguese now.
1. At the station I discovered a newspaper called "Portugal Post" which is the "jornal da comunidade portuguesa na Alemanha" and is published once a month. It seems to be a good source for new vocabulary and will keep me informed about Portugal.
2. PONS Grammatik kurz & bündig Portugiesisch: a compact grammar which will hopefully help me to remember Portuguese grammar again
3. PONS Verbtabellen Portugiesisch: a book about Portuguese verbs
4. Grund- und Aufbauwortschatz Portugiesisch nach Themen: This book claims to list the 4,000 most important Portuguese words and expressions (B2 level) and focuses on Brazilian Portuguese. There is an example sentence for each word and the book actually looks pretty good.
So I'm not going to use a course book for Portuguese. If anyone has suggestions for Portuguese/Brazilian films/tv series to watch on YouTube or elsewhere, I'd appreciate it. I also hope to find some (audio)books on ebay.
I know it's a bit early but I decided that TAC 2011 will start for me tomorrow. I've still got two days off and am alone at home, so it's just perfect.

Today I had time to work on all my languages and really enjoyed it. So this is what I did:
Spanish
1.) ANKI: added 39 new words/expressions and have a total of 620 now, reviewed the ones which were due today
2.) telenovela "Alguien te mira": watched chapters 50 - 52 (addicted to it, I'm aware of that)
3.) "El sueño del celta": read about 20 pages
4.) started with the grammar book, read the first chapter about the nouns and did the exercises
5.) started to read the magazine "ECOS", I read it aloud to practise my pronunciation
Portuguese
1. ANKI: started a file for Portuguese and added the first 22 words/expressions
2. read two articles of the newspaper "Portugal Post" and looked up unknown vocabulary
3. read the first chapter of the grammar
Norwegian
1. ANKI: added 47 new words/expressions and have a total of 1,273 now, reviewed the ones which were due today
2. did some exercises of chapter 14 of "Et år i Norge"
Czech
1. ANKI: added 62 new words/expressions, including the days of the week and the names of the months, have a total of 629 now and reviews all that were due today
2. worked on chapter 5 of my course book, mainly listened to the dialogue and practised the pronunciation, also studied the grammar of the chapter

Hi nuriayasmin,
If you like Spanish telenovelas, I just have to recommend one to you. It's called El Internado ("The Boarding School") and is probably one of the best (if not the best) shows in the world, and it will be great for your Spanish, especially listening comprehension. You can watch the first four seasons online here.
Espero que te guste. :)
