Hello, zenmonkey!

Nice to have you at team ÇÜ. Good luck with your studies, and if you need any help with
portuguese, just ask me.

Ricardo.

Kuikentje: Gracias! Me gusta ver que estas aqui tambien, le dire a mi hija pero no va saber de que hablo! Aqui la nieve se fue con el nuevo ano y nomas quedan "charcos" de blanco.

Ricardo: Thanks, and if I struggle with Portuguese I will let you know. My problem is that Portuguese is too easy to understand passively, so moving it to an active and spoken language takes a different strategy that I have not mastered yet.

Obrigado, troglodyte!

--
This week so far passive listening to German in the car (about an hour a day) and continued French speaking in the house but no active lesson time so far.

Again, after the vacations, I need to practice my 5S's (sort, set, shine, standardize and sustain). I was so *not* organized during the trip that I forgot that I took German language material with me and bought some more.
I've set aside some of the material I am going to use and I'll go back to the first post of this log and write that up, as well as identify the areas I am missing.

LADAKHI
Been working on the alphabet these last days and flashcards on Flash My Brain (31 cards)
GERMAN
One lesson in "Practice de l'allemand de A à Z" (I'll call this PdaAZ in future posts).

Hi zenmonkey, just wanted to say it's good to see that you've returned! Always liked your posts and I wish you all the best with your studies this year. Ladhakhi is an interesting choice of language - looking forward to learning about it.

Thanks meramarina! (I now watch your log and enjoyed the posts.)

Getting back into the seat of things.

LADAKHI
Learned 8 of the characters and am now working on the next 8
ཀ་ཁ་ག་ང་
ཅ་ཆ་ཇ་ཉ་
ཏ་ཐ་ད་ན་
པ་ཕ་བ་མ་

GERMAN
ASSIMIL Perfectionnement Allemand (APA)
Somehow I lost the older ASSIMIL recordings on my ipod and while I need to put those back (last few lessons) I've started this new material last week.

APA - first pass started!
Lesson 1 - Doing it the ASSIMIL way and my modifications. I'll describe that here as I need to outline it for myself and it might help others.

Pass one: Listen to the lesson. Then read the German text and only check the French for unkown words or missed out words. Then listen and read with pauses after a sentence or so. In the pauses, practice the sentence or two blind without reading the text. Then listen again. I'll shadow the lesson (in the car or at home) until I can get it down.
(Often optimized files with Audacity). Only read the notes if they are needed for comprehension. I save the notes (a little gift) and the exercises for the second pass.

Completed an 1.5h of F2F classes and we had a long discussion about the trip and a book written by an Austrian (7 years in Tibet). Intense discussion in German given the history of the author.
Activated my daughter's portable phone by calling the helpdesk and having that conversation also in German - made some basic mistakes but all is well. Really a top day of German.

GERMAN
1h20 minutes German on Lesson 2 - R/L, added new words and a few sentences to cards.
APA Lesson 2. An hour of walking and shadowing in the snow.

Reset my cards as I was so far behind on the German one.
Cards 14/14
Also used the Intense DE application which is amusing but not very effective for me yet as I know most of the vocab so far.
Posted more on walking, shadowing and trekking on my blog

APA Lesson 3 in the evening.

FRENCH
Very active daily, but I'll only note the additional work.
Grammaire Progressive du Français. (GPF)
Exercise 1.1

LADAKHI
Installed Tibetan keyboard and got Flash My Brain going with new cards.
Created 31 cards of which the first 6 have Tibetan text also. Slow, slow going.
I think I am in love with the beauty of the writing.
Cards: 14/31

Haha, writing this is going to kick me in the butt!
Just spent a little while learning to write
སྐྱོད་ (not very readable here, but if your browser goes to 200% try it.) skyot (come in, go!)

But that first character is a combination of two characters ས and ཀ, then a subscribed ya ཡ which becomes ྱ , and then add the vowel modifier: ོ
Not so easy to figure out on the keyboard!!

"Wasted" a good moment reading the site and posting. Hmm...

GERMAN
Intense DE - About 15 minutes. Still not fully convinced.
Dinner was in German with friends.

FRENCH
-- later in day -- Didn't happen, no specific task

LADAKHI
Added script for about 6 cards.
Cards: 18/31
Taught a few phrases to my co-trekker.
