Dein Status erklärt, dass Du also Französich lernt. Wenn du willst, ich kann dir hilfen. Möchtest Du sprachen auf MSN? Du kannst mir einen persönlich Nachschrift schicken. Ach...

I'm starting to worry if I'm really learning anything. Like I know that I am, but then
again, I can't really the words that I do know inside my head. I'm wondering if they are
in my head in the long term area or just in the short term.

Probably in the short term right now. If you study them right, they'll end up in the active, long term area. Though some words you never need to know actively, even if you want to be completely bilingual.

I think at your stage the most important thing is simply exposure. You need to expose yourself to the words, get the basic idea of them, find them again in a different context, just get them bouncing around in your head somehow. Search for texts and sources that use vocab you're familiar with, and glance over them from time to time. It seems to me that I always learn words the most effectively if I see them in a couple of places and THEN go look them up. Having multiple contexts with which to associate the word does wonders for your memory. Just attempting to burn the word into your memory with no context, on the other hand, very rarely leads to success or enjoyment.
I guess one of the most important things that few people realize about learning (especially learning vocab) is the looong time between learning a word and finding that it's moved into your active vocabulary. I stressed out over this for the longest time, before I finally started to get it into my head that it happens naturally and I shouldn't worry about it. Assimil does this exceptionally well (bringing words back at the right time to be reminded of them).
Okay, sorry for blathering on so much in your log! I'm following your progress with interest. Viel Glück und viel Erfolg, mach weiter so! :)
