francesa.

Log Days 30, 31
1 - Assimil FWT - Lesson 22, 23. I have lots of fun with the accent of the narrators.
Very enjoyable.
2 - Assimil FWE - Lesson 30, 31 - I'm very happy I didn't break the chain in 30 days.
3 - Pimsleur 3 - 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. I finished all three levels in 31 days (First
mini milestone).
Pimsleur is great in terms of automatizing short phrases, small talk, and being able to
understand easy dialogs at natural speed – the ad “pull you inside a language, allowing
you to engage in complex conversations with confidence and fluency” is a lie. The
pronunciation is improved somewhat due the repetition of a native and getting you to
speak all the time “à haute voix”. But as everybody knows, it doesn't go too far.
Pimsleur programs are based in “Graduated Interval Recall” (each time you remember a
word or information longer than the time before) and “Principle of Anticipation” and it
is good at that, but it is not the best if you are going use as the only source of
knowledge of the language you are going to learn. I don't consider Pimsleur as a good
way to learn a language, BUT it is a helpful tool to complementary learning. It is
great listening over and over, for instance, to an expression or grammar construction I
learnt one or two days before in Assimil or vice-versa. Besides, for me, as I'm not an
English speaker, is annoying switch my brain back and forth with each language,
decoding twice each phrase... well that's MY problem anyway, but in Portuguese maybe
would be worse. Even though I know each word of the 3 volumes, I'm still far from my
goal.
