Just found a fascinating chart, which you can see at the link below
http://www.alliancefr.be/download/Niveaux_afbe_CECRL.pdf
Shows how many hours are needed to move from A2 to C2 and everything in between

I don't know if this is true... I haven't studied even close to 240H but I feel like I am close to B1.

That chart obviously needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Lets do some simple maths from the hours given.
If you learnt nothing but French for 6 hours a day for 4 1/2 months you would reach C1 (I think this might just be possible if you spent those 4 1/2 months in a taught immersion environment, but perhaps only if you had the aptitude)
But on the same basis if you studied for 1 hour a day for 2 1/4 years you would also hit the higher part of C1 if it was just a question of time. In my experience (of myself), you wouldn't hit C1 in that time doing just 1 hour per day.

Look, it only takes you three weeks of their intensive course to finish one level!

I'm pretty sure it took me longer, but my methods may have been inefficient, especially the first several years.
Also, I' not sure what level I'm at exactly, but from descriptions I've seen likely C1 or C2...
