If it is not working try again later (but not too late) _____________________________ I was wondering if I could use this website for anything: literature in romanji I know that the consensus is that romanji won't get you far, but it seems to me that at an early stage of Listening Reading, having a parallel text of English and Romaji would be easier to use - in the beginning you follow L1. Romaji column could be there to check quickly if you're where you think you are in the text? Any ideas? The problem is that I have no clue how to prepare such a text. I only know how to recognize kanji the Heisig way. ______________________________ Nothing in particular to report on as I haven't been studying languages per se. I've been sick and I had to study for exams, so I mostly used Spanish for my limited entertainment. Heisig 996 - I've been here for a couple of days, I'm keeping up with reviews but I have no will to keep going. Maybe when I feel a little better. Spanish: Viajero del Mundo is on in the background. I've been surfing Spanish websites and I watched some videos (see the links above). I was quite happy to notice that I progressed in the last couple of months, as right now I can easily keep up with TV shows and European rapid fire Spanish. Beforehand it varied greatly depending on who was speaking on TV. I can't put my finger on what helped me with that. I've been adding words to anki, doing some LR (but not that much really, 15 hours perhaps? I've yet to get into a habit of doing it everyday), listening to podcasts... Now I will check my progress against stand up comedy (still way over my head). Actualy I've had a similar experience with French before. After a few months of not doing much I would notice an improvement. An incubation period of sorts? French: stalled. Soon I'll have to review 20 or so medical articles for a test, and that will do it. Heisig 1112.
I'm still busy with school and I haven't been studying languages at all (unless you count reading "the loom of language" as studying). I have used Spanish in almost all of my entertainment, however. Despite having a smaller vocabulary in Spanish I can understand more content in it than in French. I try to watch, read and listen to things made originally in Spanish, because I feel that I'm not improving at all while watching dubbed American shows, for example. I make an exception for novels, because sometimes they are good for LR. The next novel I'll LR will be lord of the flies (Sp-Eng). Kubelek, good luck in your language endeavours. I have no advice, I just wanted to compliment you on your English. It is extraordinarily good. I had to check two or three times to see where the asterisk is on your language list, thinking "Is this guy REALLY not a native speaker??"

Romaji wydaje się strasznie wygodne np. w Linguaphonie wersji Japoński - Romaji - Ang, który wygląda na Twoją robotę. Dzięki :D oczy wypatrzyłem żeby odczytać ten paseczek na górze ze screena z akcentem, ale jest. Nagrania super, jak tylko ogarne podstawy gramatyki to spróbuje z tekstami. Nie wiem co z tego wyniknie ale to już mój problem jak polegne.
Chyba wiem o kim mówisz, wysłał mi dużo fajnych rzeczy i mu obiecałem pomóc zrobić Braci Karamazof. Znalazł to polecane przez Ciebie tłumaczenie (A Kareniny zresztą też). ___ Heisig 1200 Only one exam to go tomorrow, and then 2 weeks off to... study. For a change. I've been asked why I'm wasting my time on Heisig. It's not Japanese. True, but now when I look at a page in Japanese it doesn't look nearly as scary as it used to, and kanji are an aid to remembering words, not a hurdle. It's easy to do, and it doesn't take too long when you're not doing it religiously, because my plan is to consolidate them quickly by reading a lot, not by reviewing stories for the next couple of years. So - even if it's not the most efficient way to learn, I find it helpful. Massive exposure would probably lead to similar results and it would be more enjoyable, but I don't know if I can do it. Cool and random Heisig moment: when I was studying history of medicine I came across an illustration from a book from 1600 on the traditional Chinese pulse diagnosis. I could sort of 'read' the writing on it using Heisig's keywords. Simple stuff, like 'right hand', 'left hand' 'lower, middle, upper position', but I didn't see it coming. Since my next semester looks brutal on paper, I'll try to really get some stuff done in the following two weeks. I'll try to make a serious dent in the remaining Heisig kanji, read and LR a few books in Spanish that I've wanted to read for a while now and.. dunno... have fun while I'm at it.
