@Canada38 Thanks. I can't wait to see how much you advance in your studies as well.
I haven't been very good this last week in writing down what I've been doing. I just
started a new job selling Knives and I haven't had as much time to devote to studying
like I wanted to.
For Catalan though, I've been studying the pronunciation chart and Chapter 1 every
other day switching off. I like having a good idea of pronunciation before I start but
I find I don't learn pronunciation very well until I've seen it in more practical
examples.
For Spanish I've spent a few hours this week watching Física o Química fan blogs in
Spanish. I know it's a really strange way to find things to read in Spanish, but at
least I'm reading something about a topic I know a lot about.
I'm going to try and work on putting on up my progress more frequently and be more
consistent with my studies but otherwise I've been doing well for the first week of
2011. Hope the team feels good about their studies as well!

In the last two days I've basically holed myself up in my room and just watched episode
after episode of Física o Química with the subtitles. I can't decide if watching movies
or shows in Spanish counts as studying considering I spend so much of that time reading
the English subtitles, however, I feel like I pick up more and more of the
conversations naturally as I listen and I'm getting a hang on the slang used. I think
it's helping, but I have start focusing on grammar again soon, else I forget more of it
before school starts again.
I'm going to listen through Chapter 1 of Teach Yourself Catalan before I go to sleep.
I'm looking for more songs in Catalan to listen to, so if anyone knows of any that
would be great to find out. I also am looking at this great grammar guide I found
online. http://www.orbilat.com/Languages/Catalan/Grammar/index.html Also, I'm just
curious to know if anyone thinks the Eastern dialect is more beneficial to learn than
the Western dialect.
Hey, comrades in Team é, are you guys going to keep posting?

Yes, I promise. =) I have been sick with bronchitis and my daughter just got over a bout with a really nasty (hand-foot-mouth) virus. Needless to say, studying has not been a priority over the last week. I'm mostly keeping up with Anki, and listening to Spanish music while I'm at work, but that's about it.
Hopefully my house will be healthy again soon. No puedo soportar más enfermedades.
I am going to have to check out this show you're talking about, though. It's on youtube? There are a lot of times I'd rather sit and "veg" and watch something in Spanish than actually actively study. I usually watch Stargate, though. I have some in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German. hehe

I was just checking. Last year one of our teammates just stopped posting entirely, so I
was just curious to know if you guys were continuing (not that I've been much better. I
haven't exactly been very regular with updates lol). I hope your daughter gets better.
Yah, I haven't felt like doing any active studying with Spanish which is why I've been
watching this show all the time. You can watch it on youtube, but the youtbue version
only has the plotline for two characters and doesn't tell the story of all the
characters. However, all the episodes are listed here on Antena3 if you want to watch
the series.

Lately, I've been experimenting with adding a lot more exposure to my L2 languages. So
far I'm switching off between a lot exposure to Spanish one day and a lot of exposure
to Catalan another day. So for example, two days ago, I spent a few hours watching my
favorite Spanish TV show but I was studying Catalan from my book along with Catalan
grammar. Today, I spent a few hours watching my favorite Catalan show and then spent
the rest of the time reviewing the difference between por and para. I'm going to keep
trying this for the rest of January and February and then I'll judge to see how well
this worked for me.
On another note, my favorite Catalan show, EL Cor de la Ciutat, doesn't have many
episodes online with subtitles. So, I am in the process of trying to figure out how to
write a letter in Catalan to the editors of the show to ask if they sell Dvds with
English subtitles (however, I haven't learned enough to write it yet lol). It's weird
because the show has an almost cultish following online but so few of the fans actually
speak Catalan (I'm just talking about the fans online). Hopefully I'll find more
episodes with the English subtitles.
On another completely unrelated note, I'm still off on vacation from school (school
starts Tuesday...). I love having all this time to study and just hang out with my dog
(friends all left for school a week ago), but I'm having a hard time sticking to just
Spanish and Catalan these last few days. In the last three days alone, I've alternated
between studying Dutch, Russian, Catalan, Spanish, Dutch, Romanian, Akkadian, Italian,
Catalan, Hungarian, and then back to Catalan and Spanish. I kind of can't wait for
school to start so I have less time on my hands and less chance for wanderlust to take
over. Oh well, the first month of TAC is done I like how much studying I've been doing.

Hey Icaria. I gues you've been busy lately. Why not stick to a couple of languages? I hope everything is fine and we'll see you back soon, even if it's out of the TAC!
