Hello everyone!:)

I have decided to write a learning log to keep track on my way to profiency (and hopefully one day fluency) in French and Spanish.

I already have little knowledge of both languages as I have already studied both: French at public school from age 13 to 16, although without much success. I have been on a 1½ year break and now wants to study the language on my own.
And Spanish for about seventh month at school and continuing...

The materials I will be using are:
French: BBC Languages Programme: Talk French and FranskBogen Tekst- og Arbejdsbog (translation: The French Book Text- and Exercise book).
Spanish: BBC Languages Programme: Talk Spanish and BuenaIdea Libro de Texto and Libro de Trabajo (which I also use for Spanish classes at school).

One last notification: My first language is Danish, not English, so please excuse me, if I make any mistakes, when writing this learning log. You are welcome to let me know if I make any mistakes as this will only help me get better at English as well! :)

¡Bienvenido al foro, RoseSpeaks! Bienvenue. Welcome from an English/Spanish speaker who lives in one of your former colonies- Danske Vestindien.

Your English is excellent! You only made a few minor mistakes, nothing to prevent comprehension. "I already have a little knowledge of both languages as I have already studied both: French at public school from age 13 to 16, although without much success. I have been on a 1½ year break and now want to study the language on my own.
I studied Spanish for about seven months at school and am continuing to do so."

You are in the right place. There is a lot of good advice here on the forum. Do a "g-search" for French and Spanish and you will find many good resources to help you.

Bon chance y buena suerte con tus estudios.

Your English is excellent! Iguanamon pointed out the only changes that I would've suggested. I'm looking forward to following your log since I am just beginning to study Spanish. Approximately how much time are you investing in studying each language? Wishing you the best of luck!

So I deleted my last post, because I changed my mind about my study plan. I think I will rather wait until I actually have time to study, so I have an opportunity to learn how much I can handle at once and also when to study what, before I make a study plan.

So this week has not been very productive because of tons of school assignments, but now I have finished all of them (yay!). I did do about an hour of studying yesterday. I read the first two chapters of FranskBogen, wrote down vocabulary and verbs and did the matching exercises in the workbook. It all took about an hour to do. Now that I only have the usual homework and not any big assignsment to do for school, I hope that I can make up for this week the following week.

By the way, I thought that it might be a good idea to put some English in between the French and Spanish to improve my English vocabulary and pronouncation as well. Personally I am not really fund of English spoken with a thick Danish accent, and a girl I know from school speaks English with the most beautiful British accent which I am really jealous of! So I am definetly going to practise that! :D

Summary of March 21 to March 27 2011:

French: FranskBogen chapter 1-2
Spanish: BuenaIdea chapter 1

Downloaded Anki to my computer and wrote French and Spanish vocabulary and verbs which I have practised throughout the week. I love it! Although today I wanted to do a final review of this week's vocabulary and verbs but somehow the card collections have been deleted so now I am going to spend the day typing in everything again and review afterwards... :(

Goals for next week:

3 chapters of FranskBogen and BuenaIdea
1-2 episodes of BBC: Talk French and Spanish
1-2 chapters of What's Up, Britain?! (English textbook used at school)
Anki reviews everyday

Summary of March 28 to April 3 2011:

French: FranskBogen chapter 3-8
Spanish: BuenaIdea chapter 2-4, BBC Spanish Steps Stage 1-2
Verbs (in both languages): To be (French: Être, Spanish: Ser/Estar), to have (French: Avoir, Spanish: Tener), to go (French: Aller, Spanish: Ir), to take (French: Prendre, Spanish: Tomar), to speak/talk (French: Parler, Spanish: Hablar), to do/make (French: Faire, Spanish: Hacer)

Things are going better now. This week I have managed to find both time and motivation to study both French and Spanish (not English, though…). I have made a goal to finish both FranskBogen and BuenaIdea before my exams which are in six weeks or so. To do that, I need to study 6 chapters of FranskBogen and 3-4 chapters of BuenaIdea each week. This I have tried to do this week as well.

One issue is that I lack audio materials in French. I thought I was going to use Talk French and Spanish at BBC Languages for that, but it turns out that the videos aren’t available for non-UK users at BBC’s website. French and Spanish Steps are still available though, which I have now began/begun (not sure which one is correct…?) in Spanish. I have already finished the course in French, a couple of months ago, and was about to begin Ma France, an intermediate course from the same website, instead, but after watching the first unit I thought that it was a bit too hard for me yet. Now I’m planning to listen to French music and radio as an alternative...

To all of you who are reading this, I wish you good luck with your studies!

Maybe some resources that could help for French audio:
- http://swac-collections.org/overview.php?lang=fra (collection of French words)
- http://www.litteratureaudio.com/notre-bibliotheque-de-livres -audio-gratuits and http://audiocite.net/ (free and libre audiobooks, some audiobooks use an oldish French because they are from quite old books)

Ikipou, thank you so much for the links!
I have already looked at them, at they both seem quite useful, so thank you for the help. :)
