Summary of April 4 and 5 2011:
French: Chapter 9 and 10 of FranskBogen 40 min. of French radio I'm quite proud that I can understand at least some of the text from the textbook even though it has been almost two years since I had my last French class at school. I just have one question to an expression I couldn't find in the dictionary: "Est-ce qu'elle… (va trouver une place libre?)" I was able to understand the last part, but didn't know how to translate "est-ce qu'elle". Can anyone translate this into English for me, please? Spanish: Chapter 5 of BuenaIdea Stage 3 of BBC Languages Spanish Steps The movie "Maria Eres Llena de Gracia”" (“Maria Full of Grace”) Because we have already gone through most of BuenaIdea at school, most of what I read is just a review, but I do still find it to good use as I get to review things I might have forgotten. I have also watched "Maria Eres Llena de Gracia”" in Spanish class about six months ago, but when I saw it was airing last night, I just thought that I might just watch it again as Spanish movies are rarely showing on Danish television. But now I have found a Danish channel that does show both French and Spanish movies, which is just great! This week's verbs in both French and Spanish: To say, tell (French: Dire / Spanish: Decir) To see (French: Voir / Spanish: Ver, Mirar) To know (French: Savoir / Spanish: Saber) To want (French: Vouloir / Spanish: Querer) To buy (French: Acheter / Spanish: Comprar) Edited by RoseSpeaks on 05 April 2011 at 6:30pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Good luck with your studies. I'm glad to know that there is a Danish TV station that shows Spanish movies. I've been studying Spanish on-and-off for years and I was wondering how easy it would be to keep it up once I am living in Denmark. Here (in the USA) it is so easy to find Spanish radio,signs,TV,friends... Spanish is a beautiful language...and now I am falling in love with Danish, too! By the way, I admire your desire to strive for a proper accent but I do think that English spoken with a Danish accent sounds lovely :) 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Hello,
The expression "est-ce que..." is the same pattern as in English "Do [someone]...". You use this whenever to ask a question. Qui est-ce ? = Who is that ? The expression "c'est..." is "This is...". To answer about something. The expression "qu'est-ce que c'est ?" is a bit complicated expression to ask "What is that?" qu(e) [without the "e" if there ist a,e,i,o,u etc] = what est = is ce = that que = what c'est = that is Literally, it's translated as "What is that, what that is". You use the expression "qu'est-ce que c'est?" to ask about an object ("what is that") and Qu'est ce qu(e)... = what do you... Summary : C'est... = This is... Qui est-ce ? = Who is this ? Est-ce que... ? = Do you.../ Does he/she... ? Qu'est-ce que c'est ? = What is that ? Qu'est-ce que... ? = What do you... / does he/she... ? French and Spanish at the same time, good luck! I learnt Spanish on its own and that
was hard enough! But I'm sure you´ll be fine, as you speak such good English and you're from Scandinavia (people speak other languages so well there). I just thought I'd add some audio/video sources that I found very useful for Spanish (I know you said you only lack French audio sources, but the more the merrier...): http://www.rtve.es/ - Spanish public television and radio, very useful and interesting. http://www.elpais.com/global/ - Good for reading and some videos/audio stuff etc. http://www.cuatro.com/ - a more normal TV station, with colloquial Spanish etc. Anyway, buena suerte! 1 person has voted this message useful |
