I am currently at the B1 German language level. My goal is to be fluent in a little over 2 years from now: May 11, 2013. Here is what I will do on a weekly basis.
1. Pimsleur German - currently at level 3 lesson 7. I will repeat levels 2 and 3 to perfect my German accent.
2. Study grammar books: German Made Simple, Essential German Grammar, Hammer's German Grammar And Usage.
3. Read children's books: Immer Lustig in Bullerbü, Warrior Cats: In Die Wildnis, Die Unendliche Geschichte.
4. Study vocabulary books: Meyers Kinder Lexikon, Mastering German Vocabulary: A Thematic Approach.
5. Use flashcards for learning new vocabulary with a goal of 50 new words per week.
6. Memorize 10 different poems: Erlkönig by Goethe (currently 3 of 8 stanzas memorized)
7. Listen to German audio books: Warrior Cats: In Die Wildnis, Verblendung by Stieg Larsson.
8. Watch German tv through internet and DVDs.
9. Write in my personal journal using only German.
10. Talk to people in German either at yahoo meetups or through skype.
On a weekly basis, I will report here how many hours I spent studying the previous week.

Wow, this sounds very intense. You must be really motivated. If you keep doing that AND ENJOY what you are doing you are bound to speak excellent German by the deadline you set yourself.
By the way, two lines of the Erlkönig have made it into our modern usage of the language:
Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind?
and
Und bist du nicht willig, so brauch ich Gewalt.
Most teenagers would probably not make much use of these two sentences but people my age certainly do, provided they like Goethe ;-)
I look forward to your progress reports.

Hi !

Week #1 update.
Learned 34 new words.
Completed 6 Pimsleur lessons.
Watched 12 hours of German tv.
Listened to 3 hours of German audio books.
Read 3 hours from German children's books.
Things I want to concentrate on for this next week:
1. When making flash cards, I want to write full sentences for each German word.
2. Work on my pronounciation.
