Hi guys!

I'm very beginner to the Turkish language. I want you to recommend me some books with Audio tapes or CDs which will help me learn the Turkish language for conversational purpose, listening to native speakers comfortably and reading & understanding text well.

I'm looking for materials too. I've seen Pimsleur and Teach Yourself are out there.

The Teach Yourself course is an excellent course. I used it after I completed the Pimsleur 30 lesson course, and TY solidified everything from Pimsleur as well as teaching quite a bit more. Money well spent, IMO.

You can download the 2 volume FSI course here. It has lots of audio and drills. Depends on your learning style. There is also a graded Turkish reader.

Good luck in your studies.

I have the following on my computer/bookshelf/web

-Pimsleur
-Linguaphone PDQ
-FSI Turkish Basic 1-3
-DLI Turkish Headstart 1&2
-Assimil Turkish
-Turkish in Three Months
-Mango Languages Turkish
-Colloquial Turkish
-Critical Turkish Beginner,Intermediate & Advanced (Arizona University)
-A French podcast for learning Turkish From TRT
-A podcast from TRT, meant for "Turkic" speakers looking to "standardize" their speech

If you think that's overkill you should see my Russian and French collections... :P
Mandarin Chinese I've been slightly more modest (but still a bit much lol..)

I think these materials will be a good start for me:

Materials
• Turkish Phrasebook.
• Turkish Grammar Reference.
• Book: Teach Yourself Turkish + CDs.
• FSI – Turkish Basic Course.
• Turkish Audio books.

I'll use the Turkish phrasebook for practicing the most common words and phrases and their pronunciation, and practicing the intonation, rhythm and stress of native-speakers.

I'll skim through basic grammar reference so that I'll have a good background about Turkish grammar.

I'll use Teach Yourself Turkish and "FSI = Turkish Basic Course" with Audio Tapes and CDs to dive into the language itself.
And finally, some Turkish Audiobooks.

What's your opinion, is these materials helpful for me to learn that language?
