Perhaps the cause of the difficulty when it comes to their sound is related to which Spanish dialect you are more familiar with?
I have an easier time understanding Mexicans than Peruvians, for example. I had a Peruvian Algebra teacher once and I couldn't understand jack. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

See if you can get a copy of this book in your country or at a local library. The section on pronunciation is worth 2x the cost of this book. I learned things about Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation that I never saw in any other Portuguese grammar or textbook. There is a small free preview:

I'm having a bit of a breakthrough with L-R too so I'm going to keep doing that for a while (if it ain't broke, don't fix it, an' all that good stuff!). Then I'll see if my comprehension of the more colloquial language in used in podcasts, etc., has improved after a month or so. 1 person has voted this message useful |
