I've been looking around the forum (and the internet at large) for some specific differences between Assimil
German editions, but I'm still not all that clear. I apologize if I missed the thread dealing with this specific issue.

I have "Il Tedesco senza sforzo" book and tapes from the 80s. I was suggested to use an English version
instead. I found a cheap old copy of "German without Toil" (in English) from the same era on Amazon. Can use
it with the tapes that came with the Italian version?

Or do you think I should just shell out for the new "German with Ease" package of book and CDs already?

As I mentioned yesterday in my first post, I am trying to bring myself up to B2 level in 2 months. I am currently at
A2, and am taking time off from work to just study German. I plan to do it full-time.

I just took a brief look at Il Tedesco senza sforzo and it does not look like the 'without toil' text. So, you will not be able to use the same audio for it.

However, you should be able to use those tapes with a newer book.

That being said, I definitely would get the Cd's just so you can convert them to MP3 to take along with you.

Viel Spaß!

Thanks kaikai.

Maybe if I transcribe a selection of 3 dialogs from the Italian version somebody can tell me which is the exact
English book that can be used with it? I have a friend who has offered to make me good quality MP3s out of the
tapes, so at this point I would prefer to spend money only on the matching printed version.

Lesson One:
1-Herr Ober!
2-Der Tee ist kalt!
3-Wie is der Tee?
4- Er ist kalt!
5- Oh, Verzeihung!
6- Herr Ober, der Tee is jetzt gut;
7   aber die Tasse...
8- Ja, die Tasse?
9 - Sie ist zu klein!

Lesson 51:

Alles is zu Ende!
3- Na, na, nun mal langsam! "Immer wenn du denkst, es geht nicht mehr, kommt irgendwo ein Lichtlein her".
Kennen Sie das?
(...)
14- Guten Tag! Warum weinen Sie denn so? Kann ich irgend etwas für Sie tun?
15- Nein, niemand kann mir mehr helfen! Alles is zu Ende...

As tractor said, based on your transcript, you need the German with Ease recordings, not German without Toil. The recordings don't match up in the least, particularly as German without Toil has 125 lessons, whereas German with Ease only has 100.

Thank you tractor and josht. Sorry if I am being redundant, but does that mean there's only ONE recorded version
of "German without Toil" and ONE of "German with Ease"? Is it only the printed editions that change?

For German with ease theres only one recorded version. For German without toil there should be more than one but they differ very little, and actually in internet you'll only find one :).

Between German with ease and German without toil, is there one that you find better than the other one?
