Hey, this "Norwegia" sounds like a great place! I hope to visit there some day. ;D

Seriously though, are there any Bulgarian TV shows or movies you could download? An American movie or TV show dubbed into Bulgarian or with Bulgarian subtitles would work fine. Even if you're not at that level yet, you'd eventually be able to work up it.

There are some Bulgarian shows out there somewhere. I could even get DVD's from Bulgaria and practice listening. But like you said, i'm not at that stage yet.

And going back to trying to decide which language, one big problem to learning Bulgarian is that it's so obscure. I would like to be able to speak it to a randon person I meet. That's highly unlikely for Bulgarian, but more likely for Russian.

It's highly unlikely for the most of languages... I'm learning Spanish and French and the chance I will somebody at the street that speaks one of these languages is really small. But both languages are definitely worth learning, in my opinion at least. With time you learn how to profit from any meeting with a speaker of your language, and you start to look for opportunities to speak the language, without waiting for a coincidence. Bulgarian is not that obscure; there're many languages where finding learning materials is really difficult. And, what's really important, you can order something from Bulgaria - not only DVDs or children books but you can also look for a course of this language - I don't believe they don't exist as I know people who're even majoring in this language (as a foreign one) at the university.

This course: http://www.easybulgarian.com/ doesn't look bad. The quality of audio is not the best one but the course seems to be interesting.

Let's see, you have no interest in learning either Bulgarian or Spanish, and you really like Russian. Why is this a hard decision?

I know, that's how it seems. You all are right, Spanish should be out of the question. But that leaves Russian and Bulgarian.

I do have an interest in Bulgarian, it's just not as much as Russian. I personally prefer Russian, because of the reasons I said above. But Bulgarian would be so nice to learn, so I can talk to my wife's family.

To put it another way: I enjoy studying Russian, but I wish I already knew Bulgarian. :)

Thanks for all your input.

I think you should learn Russian, since that's what you're most interested in. Your wife doesn't seem like she'll help with Bulgarian, as you said.
