Thank you for your response. Now situation is as clear as crystal.
Good luck with Bulgarian and Russian, and don't forget to raise your children bilingual - it is one of the best gifts which you can give to your kids....

Well it's going to be tough...they're already 7, 5, and 4. About 3 years ago we spent 4 months in Bulgaria, and our oldest was pretty much fluent in that time. She was translating for me.

When I left Bulgaria, I promised my in-laws that I'd learn Bulgarian. This is still an unfulfilled promise. I have finally found a book I like (Colloquial Bulgarian, and also FSI), and I'm committed this time not to give up. If I can succeed, then I will speak only Bulgarian in the home, and hopefully my kids will follow me!!!

Thanks for your inquiry.

How's it going so far? Glad to see you decided on Bulgarian, I was rooting for that one to win throughout the whole thread, and I see you chose it.

I think someone here said it best about your wife; she'll surely start speaking it to you once you get going. Of course it would be a lot of stress for her to TEACH you; it's not that easy to teach a language from scratch if you're not the teaching-type. But once you walk up to her and whisper romantically in her ear in Bulgarian, "Hello, my name is Jody, what's your name?" she'll surely smile and answer you in Bulgarian. Who knows? You could re-spark your relationship, starting it over again in Bulgarian.

Quick, learn how to say, "Would you like to go out for dinner Friday night? Without the kids."
