I have not had anyone insult my native language(english)but I have had lots of deriding remarks made about my choice of German as a foreign language.I hear oh "the angry language" or "that awful gutteral language".They say why did you pick to learn that?I am always having people say what an ugly harsh language German is.I don't agree of course.I am bald and I shave the rest of my hair because it looks better. As a result,I even   had someone ask me if I was a racist skinhead because of choosing German. It really upset me for awhile, but not anymore. If people don't the language that is their problem.

I'm not one of those that think Germans is "ugly" but as Mark Twain points out (the link someone posted above) it does take a certain amount of masochism to study it ^_^.

This raises the topic of language difficulty. Some find it insulting when people say their language is "easy", whereas others seem to be proud of it and exaggerate the easiness. Go figure...

Those people are stupid and ignorant: German is beautiful it's my favourite language. I love to listen a native speaker of Hochdeutsch, and Platt is sweet and funny.

It is really frustrating learning a language that people have zero appreciation for but I guess it just prooves were dedicated. I always use the argument I learn a language to understand a people, not to pick up chicks, and Germany just happens to be one of the most important, and modern states in Europe. While France(closest rival) is just a giant tourist attraction

oh boy! I'm so used to being degraded, insulted, looked down on by foreigners... It's just a horrible feeling when you are outside your comfort zone and hear people say barbaric things about my language & country (Due to lack of cultural knowledge I suppose) -_-

It's kinda insulting, but the pun is funny.

"pork-n-cheese" is funnier.

It may be funnier, because portugrisiska seems a lot more offensive, seeing as gris means pig in Swedish, erm, I think. It is sort of clever though :p.

I hold no emotional attachment to my native language. I think that anyone who gets
insulted over that is a pathetic individual.
